With all the service and hospitality that is associated with Maine, the Portland South HOJO does not disappoint. The NEW continental breakfast is the highlight of this foggy little New England destination. From sausage sliders to fresh coffee, bagels, toast, cereal, and fresh fruit, the crew in Portland South seriously bring it. Don't forget to check out the diverse selection of nearby restaurants. You can get your yearly dose of cholesterol and saturated fat at Governor's or opt for some more international fare and try to avoid an MSG comatose at the Wok Inn. All told the HOJO is the place to be in Portland South; friendly staff, pool, nearby restaurants, the Maine Mall, shuttle service to the airport and don't forget all that yummy, yummy breakfast fare.

My wife and I stayed at the Howard Johnson?s in South Portland May 17-19, 2009.
The Non-Smoking Rooms must have just had the non-smoking sign glued to the door after years of smoking therein.
One day they did not make up our room and all the staff had been sent home by 2:00pm and they would not clean it.
Local people dump trash in the dumpster beside the hotel right outside our window.
Attached restaurant was closed.
- I tried to cancel a future visit there (a week in advance) but they said I could not and kept my money. There was NOWHERE on the confirmation receipt from HoJos that indicated it was not cancellable
This place is the worst hotel I?ve stayed in EVER and I?ve stayed in Hotels all over the world. WARNING ? DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

We enjoyed our stay. Stayed 4 nights, the pool was great for my son temp was about 88 degrese, the depth was from 3 feet and went to 6 ft.. The room was a normal hotel room, did like the sink out side the bathroom, water presure in shower was great. The remote for the TV didn't work very well. The bed was not comfortable woke up with a sore back. Great location, near the Maine mall, and other resturants. Quite, did hear kids running in the halls, but when I was younger I did the same. Staff and the front desk was nice, did a great job cleaning the rooms, even made the bed for my son's crib. The only problem we had was the last day we stayed the towels are dirty, had spots on them. Other than that it was a great stay. Would stay again.
