quiet holiday stay

To be fair our stay was during the holidays so the hotel was probably a lot quieter, that said the service was prompt and courteous. The room was spacious with large flat screen tvs. The fold out sofa bed was great (but only for kids). the breakfast was helpful but not very tasty. The jacuzzi was great if you're the only one around. I found the pool water too chilly (ok it was syracuse in the winter) and a family of ten that overwhelmed the hot tub. Only bad point was getting locked out of our room due to a "dead battery" in the door lock. Fortunately the guy was able to get it unlocked in <30 minutes. hopefully a freak incident. I would stay during the week if on business; good for families on weekends and holidays. Solid 3.5

Pleasantly Surprised

We booked this hotel for 2 reasons -- 1) We prefer to stay at Hilton-owned properties to gain Hilton honors points and 2) as we were traveling with our young daughter (20 mos old) it's nice to have separate bedroom/living areas for when she takes her mid-day nap. However, after reading some of the reviews of this hotel, I was seriously having 2nd thoughts about keeping our reservation at the Embassy Suites for the Thanksgiving Holiday. However, as several other family members were staying at the Embassy, we decided to keep our reservation and hope for the best. I can honestly say I'm glad we did! Sure, the rooms are a bit dated and as mentioned in one of the other reviews, the heat worked a little TOO well, but overall, our room (and those of the other family members staying there) were very clean and quite comfortable. With the open-atrium design, I was also concerned about noise levels in the hotel, especially when I found out that several teams were staying at the Embassy for the NY Highschool football championships. However, the hotel staff did a great job making sure that the teams didn't congregate in the common areas and noise was not a problem at all. What really impressed me, however, was the overall attitude of the staff. From the front desk to the attendants at the buffet, we were always greeted with a pleasant "Good morning" or "Hello! How are you today?" They truly made you feel welcome. In summary, yeah... the hotel has a few weaknesses, but overall we had a great stay and would not hesitate to recommend the Embassy to others traveling through the area.

Not accommodating and dirty!

We have five people in our family: my husband, me and our 3 young daughters. We have stayed at many suites hotels, but never encountered these issues. First, we were told quite curtly by the desk clerk that due to a NY law, we couldn't have a king suite, only a two doubles suite, b/c of the number in our party. (We had stayed in a K Suite at a NY Country Inn & Suites the previous night.) When we first arrived at our room, an old tray of food next to the door welcomed us--and stayed with us for the night! How gross. When we finally were ready for bedtime, I pulled down my covers to find pubic hairs and a good-sized dark stain on the sheets. I immediately called the front desk, which asked me if I and my husband and 3 kids would like to change rooms at 11 pm. Hmmmm. No. They grudgingly came up to change my sheets. I felt uncomfortable sleeping the entire night and was a wreck the next morning for the next leg of our trip. Thanks. Also, please consider offering healthier (or even tastier and more interesting) snacks downstairs. Stale Fritos and popcorn with pitchers of watered-down Pepsi in pitchers and very weak, barely cold, headless beer from the tap is not welcoming to guests. It is insulting.

Cockroach!!!!

The lobby is beautiful but that is where it ends at this hotel. Just 15 min after we checked in we discovered a cockroach in our room. NOT WHAT YOU EXPECT FROM AN EMBASSY! The front desk moved us down the hall, but our stay was ruined worrying if there were cockroaches hiding in every corner. NOT the souvenirs you want to bring home from vacation! We expressed concern about the problem but we were just advised to call 1-800-Embassy. The rooms were also worn and dated! There were stains all over the carpet, peeling paint and wallpaper . The furniture was also worn and dated. There were food crumbs on the floor and under the sleeper sofa as well. The room was just not clean, which might explain the roach. The pool was cloudy and murky. When I asked the attendant if the chemicals were checked any time recently, she reported that the day maintenance man was slack and they would shock it when the night staff came on. Obviously by the horrible conditions at this hotel it is more then the maintenance crew that is slacking! Stay someplace else or take a can of Raid! This was an AWFUL EXPERIENCE!!!

Not typical Embassy Suites quality

The staff was pleasant and the breakfast was excellent; however, the rooms were in poor condition and in dire need of updating and deep cleaning. Our room was very hot and the thermostat did not work - we had to open the bedroom window all the way (in Syracuse in January!) to make the temperature in the living room habitable. It was not worth the price we paid.
