Shabby but Perf!

After time with relatives and more coming up we wanted some ocean time for a walk, a read and a yummy dinner. We took a quick turn off the Pacific Coast Hwy and there it was. The Inn was shabby but clean and friendly. While there's no beach access at the hotel we walked a few houses down the road and out to the beach we went for an ocean walk. Perfect! Back at the Inn we read our books in the sun right at the water's edge. Dinner at the Shoals was really good with dolphins entertaining all the while. Our room was clean and funky with a purple satin spread. Hilarious and endearing with the crashing waves silencing all highway noise. And it was amazingly inexpensive!
Cozy and intimate experience

Not exactly five star but all things considered worth a return trip. The room was comfortable. It certainly could use a remodel but considering there were 2 rooms in the suite a family could easily stay in 1 room. The view was beautiful and the overall comfortable aura of the place coupled with the incredible food made the whole experience a memorable one.
Beautiful View

The ocean view was beautiful from every room, Beach was walking distance from hotel. Hotel was clean and full continental breakfast was eaten at tables overlooking the ocean. Restaurant on premises was 4 star. My room had two separate rooms with double rooms since I was traveling with children. The front room wasfacing the ocean so it was calming hearing the ocean all night lulling you to sleep but the back room was facing the 101 Highway so you could here the traffic all night long. My room had the only back balcony, it was obvious it wasn't used often because the balcony floor and railings were dusty and dirty. Other than the balcony the rest of the room and bathroom were clean and did not smell moldy although the hotel was old. Overall very pleased with service and cleanliness and the ocean view was relaxing and beautiful, would stay there again. For kids there was a salt water swimming pool which was open 24 hours, board games availabe, and a ping pong table, and of course the beach was private and sandy, great for boogyboarding and building sand castles. If you didn't want to eat at the hotel, the city of Carpinteria was driving distance a few miles up the highway with a state beach and several restaurants. The city of Santabarbara was 20 miles up the highway. For safety, the hotel is located next to beach homes, no other commercial properties near by and they lock the front door of the hotel at 11 pm and your room key lets you in . No other entrance except the front door.
Location Was Not Worth It

*Extra charge billed to credit card without advisement after departure
*Very old & dated building - Terrace Walkways Leaning
*Uncomfortable beds - asked for extra pillows & was given dirty, used pillows
*Very drafty rooms - needed blankets for beds (extras were dirty also)
*Room we stayed in had security & privacy issues
*Continental breakfast was acceptable with nice view but hardly worth staying here with Santa Barbara & Ventura so close by whether you are a Family or Couple
Awesome view!

We had a wonderful time here. The breakfasts by the ocean with the dolphins and wave was great. The rooms were small and dated but the service and food was outstanding. We will be back in the future.
