Not only was this hotel not near as nice as it looks on the internet but it smells funky, the hallways are super dim and the rooms are really outdated. Even for the price there were several other hotels that would have been much better and more comfortable. The pool is only 3 1/2 feet deep and the hot tub was broken. Oh! and the cookie that they give you at check in is about the only thing that was good about this hotel. On the tv you only get like 5 channels, the bathroom didnt have an exhaust fan and the toilet didnt flush right. Keep looking, I'm sure there is a better hotel near austin at a comparable rate. I almost forgot.....they also charge eight dollars a day for parking and its self parking!

Lots of courtyards and balconies. Nice size pool, but the kids were a bit disappointed that it was 3.5 feet deep in all areas of the pool. Nice hot tub off the pool. 6 stories of balconies circling the courtyard and pool areas giving it and old world feel. Very nice hotel. I imagine it was quite the place back in it's day (built back when all the ritzy places like this one had phones next to the toilettes... ;) )
Got a very nice Hotwire rate of $*a night making it a very nice value. Cookies at the front desk were good and Pappadeux was a 45 second walk right across the street.

A Very Nice Place to Stay!

Once again I needed to be in Austin for a meeting, but my luck improved and I got a reservation for the very nice Double Tree Hotel Austin, 6505 Interstate Highway 35. I have included the address as there are several Double Tree hotels in the Austin Area and they are not all the same.
This hotel stated out life as a La Posada which explains the layout of the hotel and the larger than usual rooms. My room had a main door on a hallway and a French door that opened to a covered patio with access to a courtyard swimming pool and coffee bar. Great! I had plenty of light, the opportunity to have fresh air when I pleased and enough room for a full size sofa in addition to a king sized bed, desk and chair and side chair. I can't explain what it means to have fresh air in your bedroom when you are cooped up in a hotel for a multi-day meeting. A luxury!
I also enjoyed walking around the courtyard and often used the stairs to get to and from my room rather than take the elevator. More fresh air and a bit of sunshine.
The entry, lobby and lounge areas of this hotel is very nice with a style and grace not often found in newer hotels. The staff was helpful and kind throughout my stay. The food was way above average even when served to mobs in the large banquet rooms.
There is no charge covered parking for guests. This hotel is a very good value for the price. The location is very hand both to downtown and to the University of Texas. Beware that traffic on Interstate 35 can make a joke out of a schedule; so plan accordingly.
Handy to this hotel are several very nice restaurants, shopping and general services.

I remembered that I liked the Doubletree, but I couldn't remember why - until check-in and I got my fresh cookies!
