Hotels in S.F. are generally more expensive than in most other cities. The reason is probably that the housing costs in S.F. are very steep in general. Further one should expect to pay $20-30 for parking.

Location:
Bush Street is in downtown S.F. which is near China Town, Nob Hill and Union Square. However you are a 20 min. walk from the sea and pier 39. Whether you prefer the ocean veiw of the buzz of down town depends what you are after.

Reception:
When I first saw the reception and the male receptionist I actually expected a little bit of arrogance since he seemed very busy preoccupied. However when it was my turn he was kind and professional. The reception was smaller and a little more worn that in most hotels in this price range I had seen in cities in the US. However the place had a great deal of charm living up to the name of Vintage Court and the European influence it has is distinct.

The room:
As I expected the room was a little smaller than other hotels in the same price range in the rest of the US. However the room was clean and charming so there was nothing to complain about.

The rooms are clean and nice and have the most important facilities including a minibar.

The hotel does not have modern facilities like a fitness club or similar however most of the time should be spend on exploring the city anyway.

Wine hour:
The hotel has a wine hour between 5pm-6pm which is popular. When I was there it was self service but that didn't matter and the white wine I tried was very good.

Everything considered I can recommend a stay at The Vintage Court especially if charm is more impotant to you than size and the newest facilities.

This is a beautiful hotel located near Union Square and Fisherman's Wharf. The employees were very friendly and helpful, making sure to inform me of the evening wine tasting held at the hotel. Street parking is difficult to find, but the hotel does offer valet. The rooms were very spacious and included a mini fridge and a snack bar (for an additional price).

It is a typical old building newly renovated for use as a hotel. I especially liked the elegant decor with golden striped wallpaper and large green pillows on each bed. Also the windows had wood slat blinds that added just the right touch. Although the bathrooms were tight for two people, there were enough mirrors and outlets in the room for another person to get ready.

I enjoyed this hotel very much and would definitely like to stay there again soon!

San Francisco can be, if you let it, an exhausting vacation. The Hotel Vintage Court is a very welcome respite from that exhaustion. For a very reasonable price (about $115 a night if you look around), you get an incredibly comfortable room in a great part of town.

Located two blocks from Union Square, it offers quick access to just about any part of the city. Chinatown's gate is two blocks away. The Financial District is just down the street (the hotel also has a Mon-Fri shuttle). North Beach is a fifteen minute walk through Chinatown. Even getting to Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, and Ghirardelli Sqaure are simple - just hop on the trolley 1/2 a block away.

More important than the location, however, is the hotel itself. I don't typically feel all too comfortable in "upscale" hotels - they're usually too stuffy for me. The Vintage Court, however, was a very welcome exception to this rule. The staff made me feel right at home from the moment I walked in. Upon check-in, they reminded me of their evening wine reception. This is a really nice touch - it gives you a chance to try out different Napa Valley wines (your room may be named after one of them - look for it) while relaxing in front of the fireplace.

Remember, this is San Francisco - the rooms are not going to be the largest you've ever stayed in. But here, they're very well designed and make good use of the space they're given. For example, the sink was very tastefully placed behind a separate set of doors outside of the bathroom.

The beds are among the most comfortable that I've experienced in a hotel. The comforter was warm without being overbearingly hot and the mattress had an extra feather cushion on top.

I think one of the upscale chains calls them "heavenly beds". I don't care what they call it - I want one at home!

As with hotels in all big cities, I try and request a room on one of the upper floors to get away from the street noise. I forgot that this time and realized, once again, how early the garbage haulers actually start in the morning. With the window closed, however, the noise level was no problem.

One more really nice touch was an electric air filter in my room. I don't know if there was one in every room, but mine had it. Not something I would have thought of myself, but a definite bonus.

Even if it weren't for the great location, I'll definitely go out of my way to stay at the Vintage Court hotel whenever I'm in San Francisco.

Staying at the Hotel Vintage Court made my stay in San Francisco a unique and comfortable experience. This boutique hotel is a renovated old hotel, and it has a vineyard theme which makes it feel like a B&B at a winery. It''s not a place where all the rooms are identical. Each room is named after a winery, and I stayed in the Estancia Winery room with a king sized bed and green pillows in the shape of Hershey''s kisses. Wooden blinds were a nice feature, and there was a modern workdesk for the business traveler.

The Hotel Vintage Court has an excellent loation because it''s located just a few blocks from Union Square, where there are many shops. Many coffee shops and restaurants are located on Bush Street. The trolley also runs up the nearby steep streets to give your stay a uniquely San Francisco feeling.
