America's Best Value Inn

  • July 2, 2007
  • Rated 5 of 5 by a traveler from Travelocity.com
The hotel was clean and the rooms were nicely appointed. It was about a block off the seawall. The employees were nice. There were several good restaurants within walking distance, also a grocery store and pharmacy across the street. Around the corner there was a Wal-Mart. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Not what I thought

I was under the assumption this hotel was within walking distance to the beach. Not so. It was hard to find in the 1st place. Walking to the beach was impossible because of traffic getting there. The rooms were not taken care of properly. It wasn't clean at all. The only good thing was the price.

This was purported to be new. It is prpobably 20 years old. The bathtub wouldn't drain, the shower curtain was moldy, the adjacent room was rented to construction workers who are there permanently, and started their boom box at 7:00 A.M. It is two long blocks from the gulf and seawall, and there are no gulf-view rooms.

We thought at $45 a night, we would be getting a great bargain being off season and all. But I guess you get what you pay for. The hotel is located 1 block from the Gulf of Mexico and in the center of shopping. You easily could walk to Wal-Mart, restaurants or the shore. We found our room to be very basic. A typical hotel room, a bed, TV, bathroom, table, 1 chair, microwave, and refrigerator. It was clean but not very up to date or well kept. But our experience was nothing but abnormal. The bed was hard and very uncomfortable. It must have been one of the worse night sleeps I have had in a while. Then we just wanted a hot shower, we got lukewarm water. Not very relaxing or healthy. By the end of the shower, I was cold and frustrated. My husband had even worse luck, he got less than lukewarm water. We then settled into bed to watch the football game, only to find only a few channels, none of them the game we wanted. So I called a few sport bars, only to find most of the closed (the phone book was 3 years old). We did finally find someplace the watch my husband's favorite team get beat.

The service of the staff was OK. Most everyone spoke little English. They were not the most helpful bunch. We were told there was a restaurant nearby for breakfast, but after walking there we found it was only open for lunch and dinner.

One of the reason's we chose this hotel, was that we were able to leave our car there free for the week of the cruise. That saved us $50. I can't say we would stay there again. There are many others to choose from. I'll just chalk it up to experience.

Not worth the money

We stayed on a Saturday and the price is very inflated. The rest of our stay we stayed at a beautiful hotel that almost cost the same as this hotel and it was 10 times better
