Description: We got a really good deal, so overall, we had a nice time. However, had we paid full-price, we would have been really disappointed. Why? First of all, when we checked in, we were given room 912. The room was nice enough, but the carpets could be updated, and the view was not that great—a partial ocean view. The majority of the view was ugly rooftops of other buildings. After a few minutes in the room, we heard a loud humming. Upon looking out the window, we saw an airplane getting ready to take off at the airport. Not only did we have an airport view, but it also sounded like the plane was in our room. My wife and I are pretty sound sleepers, so we didn't worry too much about it. We weren't planning on spending too much time in the room anyway. However, that night when we went to bed, we noticed another sound problem. Our room was located just above the main entrance of the hotel. Every time someone needed a cab, the front bellman would blow a loud whistle, letting the line of cab drivers know that one of them should drive up to the lobby entrance. This might not seem like a big deal, but the Wyndham El San Juan is a very busy place at night, especially on the weekend. That whistle was being blown every five minutes. Needless to say, between the whistle and the planes, we didn't get much sleep that night. The next day, I asked for a room change and was told that the hotel was sold out and it would not be possible. However, there were rooms all over the hotel that we saw were being changed over that they could have given us. They just seemed like they didn't want to make the effort to switch things around. Luckily, we were with a group, and the group coordinator was able to get us a new room overlooking the pools. This room was much quieter. WORDS OF ADVICE: MAKE SURE YOU GET A ROOM ON THE POOL SIDE OF THE HOTEL.
Other things that turned us off about the hotel:
1. The beach - It's fine, but it is not the white-sand Carribean beach that people dream of.
2. The location - The Wyndham El San Juan is located not only by the airport, but right in the middle of the city. It is crowded, noisy, and right in the heart of the hustle and bustle. Not the greatest location for a relaxing beach vacation.
3. Too stuffy - The hotel has a strict dress code after 7pm. No shorts in the lobby. I was wearing nice, very expensive shorts with a button down designer shirt and expensive shoes at 7:30pm and was reprimanded by a lobby employee. This just doesn't make you feel that you are at a beach resort.
