GREAT TIME

Great trip for males between the ages of 18 to 50. If you do not have a good time it is because you are a loser. If I would have listened to those reviews I would have missed a great time. My only complaints are everything is overpriced and the outside bar services. I plan on going back in the near future

Overall Beautiful Hotel, but needs improvement

The good news first..Hotel is beautiful on the inside. The decor and art in the lobby is wonderful. Had plenty of restaurants in the hotel that were a little pricey but expected. Had 3 nice pools and the beach was sensational. The night life was very cool in the hotel. There was entertainment in the lobby and everyone seemed to be fashionably dressed and ready to enjoy the night. The main lobby bar served the best "mojitos" (alcoholic drink). Now for the bad news: When we arrived at the hotel, we had to wait about 2 hours before getting checked in (we did arrive 2 hours early before checkin time). We had a "vista" room on the 3rd fl. The room was very nice and chic, but it only had a small 4 X 4 slit for a window that was high up on the wall. I got up on the couch to look out and it had a view of the extended roof. The bathroom floor was dirty and the corridor carpet outside of the rooms seemed like it had not been vacumed in weeks. Also, the bathroom door was ackwardly placed and 2 people could not go into the bathroom without having to squeeze in to get the door closed. We spoke to the concierge and had our room switched to the 4th floor. This room had a sliding door for the bathroom which was better, but the shower had glass doors which ended above a small ledge. Everytime we took a shower water ran down the glass doors, onto the ledge and onto the floor - so we ended up having to clean a trail of water from the floor each time we used the shower!

Great Girls' Getaway

Couldn't have been happier with my hotel choice for a quick getaway with friends. The El San Juan is a destination in and of itself! The photos of the lobby don't do it justice. Super chic and cool. It is THE place to be at night. It was great fun sitting at one of the many bars in the lobby and watching the locals salsa dance. The room was clean, light, and bright just like the photos on the website. Likewise, the pool area was just as beautiful as the photos, maybe more so. The ONLY complaint I have with this hotel was the food/bar service both in the lobby and at the pool. It was like there was some secret to getting service and no one was letting us in on it! It was almost comical. Here's a tip: they have a shortage of menus... when you do finally get your hands on a menu, take a pen and paper and jot down the items you might be likely to order the next time (the waitstaff will want it back right after you order!)... you just might save half an hour off your wait time for your drink! In all fairness, we found this common just about everywhere we went on the island. I would highly recommend the El San Juan for a friends getaway... As much as I loved it, I would probably choose another location for a family trip as there were very few children.

Breathtaking, but No Service!

Hotel itself is jaw-dropping in its beauty. The pools are all incredible with hot tubs scattered all over. The beach was perfect and right next to the hotel. We wanted to order out because we couldn't afford the pricey room service or on site resturaunts, however front desk only gave us one pizza delievery number, where no one spoke english. They also couldn't give us directions and did not have any maps. We were left to find our own way to our attractions. We excpected much more from such a pricey hotel. Old San Juan was a 15 minute drive and well worth spending a day exporing. Parking was also an unexpected $20 per day. We were gone for 8 hours one day, and returned at 5pm to find our room still not visited by housekeeping. We then phoned and requested this because we needed towels, and were told housekeeping was working on our floor and would get to us. We stayed in the cheapest room, which happened to be in a completely sperate building from check in. After checking in, we had no idea where to find our room, and were just told to head towards the pool, whch there are many of. Overall it was so beautiful and amazing to be right on the beach, however we would have liked a friendlier staff from such a glamorous hotel.

I'm certain San Juan has beter choices.

Upon checking in to this hotel, I waited for a room to become available. At 4PM I was given a key to a room with the window 3 feet from a 6 foot high concrete wall. I was told I could change rooms the following day. At 8am the front desk suggested I have my things packed so that I would be ready to move to a different room. After numerous visits to the front desk, conversations with staff, manager, ets, I was told that the only other room to become available for me was a room that faced the hotel parking building. There were check-ins occurring all day but they basically refused to change my room. The staff was rude, indifferent, sullen and totally unhelpful and not interested in making this visit to PR a pleasant experience. I'm certain that San Juan has better hotels.
