Just in need of updating

The hotel was fine, but that's about all I can give it. AmeriSuites can be great, but this one needs some renovations. Free breakfast was nice, but always crowded and ran out of things - restocking was not a priority. The location to the Riverwalk and Hyatt points network promted our stay and probably will again, but just not what I expected for the $$.
Cricket Infested

My friends and I walked into a room of hopping and dead crickets. We flushed about 18 in the first hour. When we complained the hotel staff sent us a maintenance man with a broom and dustpan and the explanation that it was cricket season. He told us that they fly up the vents into the attic and our room (704) was right beside the vent. I asked other visitors if they had the same problem and it seemed to be just the 7th floor.
The carpet and entire room felt dirty and we found items in the room that we didn't bring (marble in the bed).
The beds were not comfortable. The pullout bed sinks in the middle so 2 people end up sleeping on each other the whole night.
The over-crowded breakfast was ok, but did not include scrambled eggs or bacon.
The walking distance is ok during the day (about 10 min from the action), but a little scary at night. I would stay somewhere closer if you plan to go out at night.
Positives: Fitness room was nice and clean, rooms were spacious, may be worth staying at after Hyatt renovates it.

Friendly staff; clean rooms; decent location on Riverwalk.
