Great hotel, nice pools and beaches

Everything about the hotel was wonderful. The common areas, pools, beaches and spa could not have been better. The hotel meals are very expensive. We had dinner in the speciality seafood restaurant and 2 of 6 sent the fish back as it was spoiled (smelled like ammonia) and our bill was still over $60/person. The Italian restaurant was no better and very expensive. You will need a car ($20/day to park) to explore the local restaurants which were quite good and reasonable.

The hotel is located right between the beach and the rainforest. The hotel is beautiful from the rooms, to the location, to the pools. The staff was extremley friendly. I only have two complaints and that's the prices of the hotel food and the casino staff. We rented a car so it worked out perfect. If you are only dining at the hotel, you will be broke in 3 days. Rent a car and buy groceries and your own booze. There isnt a lot to do at night, so if your looking for night life check out Old San Juan. I went for my 30th Birthday and still had a blast. The casino staff were rude at times so we complained and received free drinks and chocolate dipped strawberries. Overall, I would definitely return and recommend this hotel.

My Experience at Rio Mar

This is an excellent hotel. My friend and I had a great time on the beach. Checking in went rather smoothly and we had a very nice room overseeing the mountains. We had one minor problem; with our bathtub water but didn't let it ruin our vacation. Be preapred to pay other hotel taxes at the end of your stay. I think it's 12 or 14% per night. The hotel needs a little more nightly entertainment and more retaurants. The food and drinks are little pricy but it was good. It was a very restful vacation. Rent a car at the airport becuase the transfers are little pricy.

The hotel itself was quite nice. The location of the pool and beach were very accessible. The refurbishing of toiletries and coffee in the room was not the best. The biggest issue we found was that the food was so expensive. If you stay at this resort, be sure to rent a car so that you can go offsite for lunch and dinner. I would go back to this resort again but would definitely eat elsewhere.

Front desk was friendly, the location nice, and everything was clean. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel was undergoing some construction, and we were awaken several nights with the sound of scraping and paint and acetone fumes.
