Description: The Phoenican off Camelback Road is a world-class resort featuring a spa and renowned golf course. Accommodations are either in the main body of the hotel or "casitas" (little homes/condos) set amongst the Sonoran desert landscape. We were in a casita. Casitas can be either on the first floor or second, there being four to a unit. Linens are as soft as a baby's butt, with a 300 count, and there is an expansive balcony/patio with chairs and chaise lounges. The window treatments are adjustable shutters. The TV is larger than your standard hotel and the bath sumptuous. Tubs are marble and the toilet had a bidet. The shower had the most unbelievable shower head I've ever seen in a hotel. It drenches you with a torrent that feels like a waterfall. I noted that older people/handicapped would appreciate the bench inside the shower. Complimentary shampoo and conditioner are from the spa and nearly full sized. The only thing I didn't like (ha, ha) was the scale, given the fine meals we had at The Phoencian.
The grounds feature numerous pools, grottos, and hot tubs. There is a croquet course and full-size chessboard, although we did not see it. Tennis courts are also on site. Do not miss the Cactus Garden on the side closest to Camelback Mountain. It’s better than most arboretums. I should note that this was a business-reward trip and of no cost to me. Casitas, I think, run $750 a night.
