Great place to stay

We stayed here one night after flying in to Vegas on our way to visit several national parks. We arrived at 4:00 AM because of major flight delays, and there was a cheerful lady at the desk who helped us with no problems. The free valet parking is definitely a plus, although you may have to wait 5-10 minutes to get your car back. The rooms were very nice and spacious. The showers were hot, with great water pressure, although I'm 5'8" and even I had to lean over to get my head under the shower head. The only downsides were that there was no iron in the room (although maybe they could have brought me one if I asked) and there's no breakfast. This hotel is removed from all of the major stuff, so if you're going to Vegas and want to be in the middle of everything, it's not for you. But, if you're looking for a great value and a good place to stay, I recommend it. I would definitely stay here again.

Great deal.

Before I booked the Cortez, I looked at the reviews Travel agency had listed. I saw some that hated it... some that said it was ok for the price. I was looking for the 2nd one. When we got there, the front desk wasn't a nightmare like some had said. It wasn't the most chipper or efficient front desk I've ever seen... but it wasn't the worst either. I read a review saying that the rooms weren't clean, etc. I braced myself as I opened the door... to my surprise and delight, it was very clean. The beds were firm. The couch was comfy. The only complaint that I would have about the room was that I'm 6 foot and I had to stoop over some in the shower to wash my hair. I really enjoyed staying downtown and would definitely stay at the Cortez again! For those of you traveling with children, downtown is probably not the best... we did see a couple of "professionals" walking around. There is an on-duty security guard outside the Cortez. The food at the Cortez wasn't very good. I recommend avoiding the Chinese buffet. I highly suggest a bar called Mickey Finnz that's just down Fremont from the Cortez. Good mojitos and good food. There was also a carribean band the night that we were there. Over all the room was definitely worth the money.

Comfortable

I really enjoyed my stay at the EL Cortez, the rooms in the towers were spacious and clean and the room service was excellent. The Hotel is a great value and because it's off strip, you do not have to fight the crowds, it's also located just one block from the Freemont Street Experience. This Hotel must be the best kept secret in Vegas I will be staying again next year.

just okay

the saying you get what you pay for, is very accurate with the El Cortez. We did get a great price on the package with air + hotel, but the accomodations were far below what I expected. The rooms were outside, and it was cold, they were clean but I might as well been in a Motel 6. The gaming was very slow with many tables closed most of the time and not much variety. The staff was good but the overall experience was just OK. would not recommend to others unless you are on a very tight budget.

Would stay here again

My husband and I love staying in "downtown" Las Vegas. You get a bigger bang for your buck and we love the casual feeling of downtown. The El Cortez is a great place to stay, after all, all you really need in Vegas is a bed and a shower. El Cortez if very clean, safe and an overall great place to stay. We had a view of the strip and of Fremont Street. Sooooo, if you want value AND a great place to stay, try the El Cortez. Clean, friendly service and all around great place to stay
