Great location, safe and quite place to enjoy, staff members quite helpful and corteous, but valet service is very slow giving preference to Casino customers.
Overpriced...

My wife and I went to San Juan to take a seven day cruise. We booked the Intercontinental for the night before we left and the night after. The experience was very mixed. When we arrived early the first day(about 2 hours before the 4pm check-in) we were told our ocean view room wasn't clean yet and to come back closer to 4. No big deal, we went to the pool bar and had some cocktails. We checked back at 4 and it still wasn't ready...ok, we were told not long. We waited another 20-30 min and the girl at the desk said she was upgrading us to the "club level". We thought, great this will be nice. The room was on the second floor facing a bunch of trees(couldn't even see the pool). The "perks" for the club level are that you get free breakfast and free cocktails at happy hour, however the "club" area has been closed for some time now? OK, no big deal. We go on our cruise, come back to spend our last night in the "ocean view" room. The cheaper ocean view room that i had paid for in the first place ends up being bigger, nicer, and has a beautiful view. I brought my concern to the desk where the same girl that gave me the "upgrade" says, "But, the club level is more expensive and you get free breakfast and cocktails." What, the club level is closed...so what's the perk? The room is smaller, has no view, and is creepy. Oh, and 2 maids got in a fist fight outside my room! She wouldn't budge on the fact I didn't get what I paid for. Also, everything is overpriced in PR. I won't be back. PS. The beach smells.
Not what I expected.

I can honestly say we were a bit dissappointed with our stay here. We checked in at 4pm, check in went pretty fast. The room was "ok", could use some updating. We were on the 14th floor with a viw of the city, which was fine. It had a small balcony which was nice. The bathrooms are standard but the set up with the door opening right into the toilet was slightly annoying. The pool area was beautiful and the hot tub right next to the pool. The drinks are EXPENSIVE!!!!!! We ran accross the street for everything. There are plenty of fast food restaurants within walking distance a Pizza Hut, Burger King, Church's, Domino's etc. There is a great little Bagel place in the plaza accross the street, they serve all types of breakfast and lunch food. We just didn't feel comfortable there at all. We always felt like we were being watched like they had thier own secret service! One guy who brought food from Burger King over was told to leave the lobby and eat it outside. Not exactly a nice way to treat your guests if you ask me. The food was ok, didn't eat there alot. The beach bar had good finger food. All in all....not worth the money!
I give it a B+

Over all the trip was awesome. I was let down by the puerto rican food. THere was no flavor and I was shocked because it is in Puerto Rico... The hotel experience was awesome. The service couldn't have been better.
Try to get a room high up and request and ocean view.... They party late on Friday's so you want to be as high up as possible to avoid alot of noise. Also take the bus everywhere, it is free up until November..
The island was wonderful, my hotel wasn't in the best of neighborhoods either though. The police are everywhere all the time. So my wife and I felt safe and nervous. LOL
Highly Recommended Hotel!

Visited mid August, 2008 visit from NY to PR. Staff extremely helpful, friendly and efficient. Check-in was super fast and hotel accommodated for our need for wireless access before check-in. Location is ideal with easy access to other major hotels, bars and restaurants on the Isla Verde strip (walking distance). Beach not crowded at that time of year.
