Recently we had our second visit to the Intercontinental,San Juan,PR. We booked our trip through a Yahoo travel site. Our trip was postponed 2 days due to a snow storm in the Atlanta area. I immediately notified the hotel directly about the weather circumstances beyond my control and inquired about a credit or extending my stay 2 more days in exchange for the 2 days we lost. I contacted several managers at the hotel and got nowhere. They refused to give me any credit or any consideration for our situation.
I had to add two days extra at my own expense. I'm not happy that the hotel refused to credit me those lost 2 days even though it was due to weather circumstances beyond my control. Also, when I added the additional 2 days, no one let me know that I would be charged 2.5 times the resort fee due to the higher room rates. I paid $41/day for the "resort fees" for the additional 2 days as opposed to $18/day "resort fee" I was charged for the first 3 days. When I inquired at the front desk that said that the resort fee was a % based on your room rate.
In summary, it is a shame that such a beautiful hotel with excellent staff has management that is only interested in "sticking it to you" whenever money is involved.
Unfortunately,we will not return to this hotel and it is not due to the staff but due to poor management!

The rooms were clean, and the hotel service staff was awesome! The beach was awesome and they had great service on the beach too! We also enjoyed the pool.

This was a beautiful hotel. I choose it because of the pool area. The pictures from the website don't do it justice. My husband and I like to lounge, swim and enjoy an exotic drink or two. The waterfall was gorgeous and the soothing sound--very relaxing. The only issue with the pool area was the price of drinks and food--very expensive. We found ourselves taking a nightly walk to pick something up for lunch at one of the many grocery stores and sub shops directly across the street from the hotel. The restaurants at the hotel too were very expensive, so we chose to take an evening walk daily and try one of the many different restaurants available.
The purpose of our vacation was just to lounge and relax, but we did visit the Bacardi Rum Plant in Old San Juan. The front desk was very helpful and suggested that we do the trip on our own (bus, trolley, ferry, etc...). We saved $75.00 doing it this way, but it ended up being an all-day affair. I would recommend seeing the distillery nonetheless. Free samples were offered, the history of the plant was very interesting and deals on bottles of rum were fantastic!
A trip into Old San Juan is also recommended. We were able to see the fortress that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean, the old cobblestone streets, and take a trolley ride that pointed out some of the more interesting spots.
All in all the trip was "mucho fantastico"! We'd go back in a heartbeat.
P.S. The beds really are as heavenly as everyone reports them to be. It was like sleeping on a cloud!

My husband and I ended up staying at this hotel very last minute after missing our cruise ship in Ft. Lauderdale. The only way to get on the ship and meet up with our friends was to make it to the first port of call and hook up with the boat there. We booked this hotel after staying at the Intercontinental in downtown Chicago (where we're from) and having a general idea of the service this brand provides. We couldn't have been happier with our choice. We'd never stayed in Puerto Rico for longer than 7 hours while there with a boat, so it was a great experience. The pool was pretty, our room was comfortable and, it was right on the beach. We couldn't have asked for anything more. The staff was PHENOMENAL, never lacking in the helpfulness and kindess. We did a free blackjack lesson and the gentleman that ran it was SUPERB...I wish I could remember his name, he was a wonderful teacher and so nice, as was almsot every person we dealt with there. Considering the "drama" we went through to get down there and the reason for staying, we were appreciative of the time we had there and now we're talking about going back!!!!

First getaway from the children for my wife and I in a long time. Our Spring Break, while they spent Spring Break with family back home. We like to just lounge, have afternoon cocktails on the beach, and basically do nothing because of the pace of our everyday lives. This was the perfect spot for us. I was fascinated to discover that it took only 5 minutes from the airport. Check-in was 4:00 PM, we landed at 11:00 AM, and I was in my swim suit and flops sitting at their beach bar in front of a 42 inch plasma watching the NCAA tournament with the ocean in the background at 11:30 AM. They allowed us to check-in, check my bags, and said to check back around 3:00 PM to see if my room was ready. Towel shack already has your name and gives you a wrist band to enjoy the property. They are strict about people who do not belong on grounds, which I find a plus, not a hassle. Bed was wonderful, as a matter of fact, I have tried to duplicate the comfort on all of our beds at home. Apparently, I did not know what I had been missing! Fitness center has everything you need. Just make sure you stake your territory at the pool. Pool atmosphere is lovely, but if you want sun all day, limited spots. Head to the beach and look for the native who swims the full length of the (shark?)netting out in the ocean each morning then walks up and down the beach blessing it throughout the day.
