At first I was disappointed by the lack of ammenities - no coffee, no showercap, no bathroom hook for a nightgown - but in the the end I so appreciated the cleanliness and the staff that I will gladly return. Of course, the location is the best!

I stayed in a suite with kitchenette...and it was huge!...It reminded me of my grandmother's house, and that is a good thing...I loved the decor...the bed was very comfortable and the a/c was great (being from Texas, that is a biggie)...It was in walking distance to just about everything we wanted to do..I'm going back in a few weeks, and would stay there again...

This hotel was a very good location. It was clean and the staff was good also. The hotel is an older property and could use some sprucing up. The room was small but was okay for the amount of time I was there.
Fair enough

First off this was my first time staying in the city. Usually I'd stay in Wayne, NJ and take the bus over.
The hotel, as in the building, was not exceptional. However the staff was helpful and polite.
The hotel is in a good location. You walk three block South and you reach the subway. You walk three block north and you're at central park. One block south and 2 blocks east and you're at the Apple store and GM building.
Also, there is some really great food nearby. I love chinese and found out that Joe's Shanghai (sp?) was a block and a half east of the hotel. Spent about $20 per person and still had leftovers for late night snacking. Breakfast there were a couple of bakeries between the hotel and the subway station. Almond Poppyseed muffins are Sooo gooood!!!
When I checked in I received a free upgrade to a suite. I think they might have over booked as the next morning I notice a large tour group in the lobby. The bed was firm, which I don't like. The a/c has a digital display that you can use to control the temp in your room, the suite had 2 one for the bedroom and one for the sitting room. The bathroom was a littl cramped but usable. Don't expect a view of anything but your neighbors. I was toward the back of the hotel so I didn't experince any street noise.
Overall: Good hotel for the price and location, not for people who hang out in a room all day. Not for the disabled, loads of stairs in and even to some of the elevators.
Wellington Hotel

We booked our trip 3 months in advance and were looking for a hotel with adequate central location. Wellington is approximately 2-3 blocks from Central Park, and 10ish blocks to the middle of Times Square. The hotel itself is aging, but it definitely felt very "New York" for the tourist in us.
The hotel "upgraded" us to a better room, however, the staff was not very friendly, and the "maid" service refused to give us extra towels. It took a few tries to get the doorman to help us get a taxi as well. The gift shop in the lobby, however, is full of amazingly helpful people. I recommend booking any ground travel through them, as the people are very friendly and willing to work with you regarding any questions you may have.
Location and convenience a plus! Staff might have been having a bad couple of days, who knows. We might consider staying at the Wellington again, if for no other reason, the bakery next door, and Carnegie deli across the street.
