Best Things Nearby:
Best thing near this resort was San Diego, only 20 minutes by car, and you were able to enjoy the gorgeous city, with its famous zoo and Gaslamp district. We took a tour from Old Town San Diego with a trolley bus and enjoyed in comfort all that San Diego had to offer. A bit closer by, could even be done on foot, was a shopping mall where you had a good-size supermarket and several shops and restaurants (definitely go to the Mexican, sorry--cannot remember the name--but it was the only one there). Within five minutes' drive, you of course had the beach and Solana centre, where you had an even bigger choice of good restaurants. In nearby Carlsbad, there is a big outlet centre, excellent to do some great shopping for good prices (we travelled from Europe and brought an extra bag for our shopping goods). The resort also arranged excursions to several places--among others, Tijuana, Mexico. We didn’t do this, but it is a good alternative.

Best Things About the Resort:
This resort was great to relax in, and there were all types of people, from the young to the old. Activities-wise there wasn’t as much on offer as there is at the big mainstream resorts, so if you prefer entertainment and a kids' club, etc., you will not find this at the resort itself. We were aware of this when we booked the resort, and since we weren’t looking for this, the pool, Jacuzzi, tennis courts, and gym were perfect for us. If you do travel to this resort with your kids, be sure they are able to entertain themselves or, like some of the families, just bring your own board games. Horse races are held next door during the season, and you are able to end your day at the good club restaurant adjacent to the resort.

We arrived a day later than our booked check-in, and when we called ahead to inform the reception about this, it was no problem, and our apartment was ready for us as soon as we arrived. We had a great two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit (we booked last-minute, so we were lucky this became available) and with a great kitchen with all the facilities a person could need when on holiday (the dishwasher was particularly useful). Over the entire length of the apartment we had balconies, great to relax on in the evenings. We weren’t bothered with any sales pitch; there was a lady in the lobby who you could approach if interested in resale or sales, but no hassle if you weren’t interested--they would not bother you.

Resort Experience:
Our stay at the resort was part of our last days in the U.S.A. We had driven from Phoenix to San Diego, with stopovers at the Canyons, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles, and meant to relax and do a last bit of sightseeing in San Diego. Our arrival was in early October, and even the weather was kind to us--the sun showed itself a lot of times. We were able to see all the sights and spend time around the pool to relax, just as we had wanted to, so our holiday was a success.

Best Things Nearby:
San Diego, with all its amenities. The beach is within walking distance. Good local live entertainment.

Best Things About the Resort:
The pool was great. We had a nice patio right off the pool. The bed in the room flipped up, so it was out of the way in the daytime.

Resort Experience:
The resort was right across the street from Del Mar horse racing track. The season had not started, which may have been a good thing, because the traffic was not very busy with it closed. You need a car to get around, but once you get to San Diego, you can get around without it. You can even go to Mexico with your car. There is a nice drive you can take along old Highway 101 that is very scenic. The nearby beach is small, but you can stroll a lot of the cliffs and find secluded spots.

They were so clean and provided cleaning service daily. The pool along with the grounds area was very clean. The parking got a little hairy! There is a restuarant on site and it is very popular.

The accommodations were awesome. We had two floors. Upstairs we had two twin beds and a foldout coach that slept two. A full kitchen included dishwasher, stove, refrigerator and even a garbage disposal. Down stairs was a full-size king bed plus another full-size bathroom with a whirlpool bathtub. Everything was clean. The furniture was a little outdated, but in good condition. We had plenty of room and very home-type situation. Service was great and would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys relaxation.

Older resort, but very clean with modern and comfortable furniture and applicances. The only drawback was that the parking was not adequate for guests. Much of the front parking lot was used for valet parking for the nearby restaurant.

Isn't a lot to do if you have children. I brought my 14-year-old daughter and 11-year-old niece. They played ping pong and swam. That was the extent of the activities. Because Solana Beach is so close to the beach (less than a mile), we spent a lot of time checking the different beaches out. Solana Beach is a nice surfer town. They have Cedros District which has funky, different galleries, shops, and restaurants. Nearby is Del Mar, Carlsbad and La Jolla. Solana Beach is about 20-30 minutes from San Diego.
