We arrived a bit early, and the first thing that impressed me was the suggestion that we could leave our bags, do some sightseeing, and check in later, that way we'd not get a room next to the train tracks.
The first night we also had a message from the night manager just to make sure everything was to our liking. A nice touch.
The location of this hotel is just great... a short walk to the mall, closest to the Native American and Air and Space museums.
The kids (13 + 15) loved the rooftop pool.
I was able to get a nice photo of the dome of the Capitol Building, with the flowers on the hotel roof in the foreground. A nice touch.
One night 2 of us ate at the hotel bar, and the Chicken Panini sandwich was one of the tastiest meals I ever had. And the atmosphere was just great too. Very friendly staff all around.
I would hightly reccomend this hotel to anyone I knew.

Location problematic

Chose this hotel because of its proximity to the Mall. While it does deliver in that respect, the proximity to the Mall also leaves you in the center of an area almost devoid of amenities. When you add that to the facts that we couldn't even get anyone to answer when we called room service, and that the service in the on site restaurants (other than Starbucks) was lousy, it made for a frustrating stay.

We had a lovely two day trip in DC. This is a great hotel in a wonderful location- just south of the Mall. We walked everywhere and left our car in the secured parking area the whole time (although they do provide in-and-out privileges if we had wanted to drive anywhere). They also charged us for only two days of parking, not three (some places go by calendar day), so I appreciated that. The hotel room was clean and amazingly quiet. Our room was right near the elevators and also looked out over a busy street, but we heard very little outside noise from either side. The restaurant is okay-- very family friendly with lots of buffets. There aren't too many restaurants in that neighborhood (I don't count Starbucks or McDonald's-- which are right there), but it wasn't a problem. I will absolutely stay there again next time I'm in DC!
(We didn't hit the pool but my husband went up to see how it was. "Child soup" was the description he came back with. The kids in the hotel loved it, but we didn't get a chance to try it.)

For a family vacationing in the DC area the location is great. The room was clean and the service above average. The only real negative about my our stay there was the rooms are extremely noisy, the walls must be paper thin. The cost was a little pricy but for the DC area I suppose that's normal.

Arrived during busy time for check in. Waited in line for 25 minutes while two, of four visible, employees helped with check in. When we finally got to our room it was occupied. It was taken care of but would have been nice to get an apology. Rooms are adequate. Not really up to date and TV and internet conection are sporatic. Our TV screen was actually fuzzy. After a long day it would have been nice to be able to watch some tv or check the internet. Restaraunts are WAY over priced for the quality of the food offered, even with the kids eating free. Wasn't too crazy about the EXTREMELY LOUD jazz music offered in the lounge, one evenig. It was very disruptive. A/C unit in room never got temp below 78.And even though it was set lower it would shut off at 78 and not come on until 82. It was over 95 and humid during our stay. The hotel is a HOT SPOT for high school and youth group stays. No less than 3 charter busses full of kids there the whole time we were there. That would have been nice to know prior to booking so we would not have had to be on the same floor as these kids. They weren't bad kids, just acting like kids, late in the night.
Trains didn't bother, even though we were right by the tracks. Location absolutely can't be beat, to the mall and museums. McDonalds and Quiznos on same block. Starbucks in hotel. Convenience mart next door.
Note that High prices don't equal better quality.
