Stay Away!

Here is a breakdown of the experience my wife and I had during our visit to your hotel last week. We are frequent visitors to the Bar Harbor area and will be seeking different accommodations during our next visit.

Check In: As we were on our Honeymoon we were told we received an upgrade to a room without an obstructed view. However, when we arrived in our room the only view we had we of the Whale watch boat which blocked what would otherwise be a pleasant view of the harbor. The complimentary bottle of champagne was wonderful and very much appreciated.

First Night: After getting the flies out of the room (approximately 6) we both enjoyed a wonderful night’s sleep on a very comfortable bed.

Day 1: We ordered room service for breakfast and it arrived warm and on time. We both agreed that it was one of the better breakfasts that we ever had. When we arrived that evening we noticed that our wine glasses, cheese knife and white ceramic bowel were missing that were in the gift basket received from our families. I phoned guest services and the informed me that they would look for the items. After 15 minutes the front desk called to inform me that they were checking with the kitchen staff to see if they had the items. Approximately 30 minutes later I had to go to the front desk to obtain replacement wine glasses, cheese knife and bowl so my wife and I could enjoy a glass of wine and snacks that were given as a gift.

Day 2: As we were heading out for the day I noticed that the housekeeping staff had not replaced the door sign to request a timeframe for housekeeping services. I was able to cross out the previous day’s time and enter the new information. That afternoon we sat by the pool and were continuously interrupted by a group of very loud and unruly children. After arriving back at our room I noticed that housekeeping also failed to leave a menu to order breakfast. This caused us to go elsewhere for breakfast the following morning.

Day 3: After enjoying a wonderful hike to the top of Gorham Mountain we returned to our room to shower. Housekeeping failed to read the sign which had to be crossed out for the third time as we were not left a clean sign to request a time slot. I attempted to ask the employee to come back in approximately 1 hour as we were not ready. He then asked me if I spoke Spanish as he did not speak English and could not understand me. When we returned from a walk through town to freshen up before dinner we realized that our room had not been cleaned. I phoned guest services to ask for someone to come and tend to our room.

Day 4: We left early that day as we decide to visit Stowe Vermont for the remainder of our Honeymoon. During checkout the front desk staff never thought to ask if we enjoyed our stay.

Overall my wife and I are extremely disappointed with the service we received during our stay at the Harborside Hotel. For the amount of money charged for our stay we feel the poor service is completely unacceptable. My wife and I chose not to make a fuss about these problems during our stay as we were on our honeymoon and felt that as a result of the way the missing glasses and dishes were handled that it would not have been worth the effort.

We stayed at this beautiful hotel and were so disappointed. We paid $$$ a night for a two bedroom suite with balcony and instead we got a corner room on the pool with the opposite bed configuration then was told to us and in pictures. We were next to a housekeeping room that was none stop all night. One of our doors did have a number on it so the staff confused it for the housekeeoing room trying to open the door until 4am . No apologies and despite countless efforts the manger was not available. The hallway smelt funny. Nightmare. Ironically they came in to clean our room at 3:45pm after we were all out of the room from 9am to 3:30pm As the result we missed the whale watching at 4 pm because they asked us go wait in lobby till done . When we returned to shower after hiking dirty towels were on the floor and a toilet was clogged. Big money big headache

Upon arrival, we were told that our RESERVED room with oceanfront view had been given to someone else (a stay-over). I find this very upsetting considering that my husband and I were on our honeymoon and had made reservations 2 months in advance. Then the Front desk manager told us he would upgrade our room and it would not cost us anything. After checking in to our room, we went online to see if this was true. In fact, it was not true and we were now being overcharged to stay in a room with a lovely view of the parking lot on the first floor. It was quite disturbing to find out that the FRONT DESK MANAGER had lied to us and tried to make more money off of the situation. We then went back to the same MANAGER and let him know that we were dissatisfied with the arrangement. He kindly offered us a "discount" which turned out to be the cost of the room with the AAA discount we had already received for our reservation. What I find to be the most disturbing part was that I was supposed to be impressed with this discount (that really was the fair price of the room that he gave us in replacement for the room we were supposed to get in the first place). My husband and I felt that we were taken advantage of by the front desk manager and we will not be coming back ever again. I will also be letting everyone I talk to know about this completely dissatisfying experience.

How nice it was to go to New England and stay at this wonderful hotel. My wife and kids had a great time in the heated pool that overlooked the Bar Harbor Bay. We highly recommend this location and will come back soon.
