Chalet at the Pines Resort

My husband and I stayed in one of the Chalets at the Pines Report in April of 2009. We thought that it was super cute, with 2 separate floors plus a loft above the kitchen. The room also advertised a fireplace. Unfortunately, while the room in fact had a fireplace and 3 candles throughout, it did not come with either firewood or matches. Getting firewood was the easiest part. Matches were another story. Neither the store, nor the staff knew were we could get our hands on matches! Seriously! After getting creative in order to start the fire, we eventually made our way to bed at around midnight. When we got in bed we were in for a surprise...the fitted sheets only covered the top half of the bed, the rest was exposed matress! The front desk was closed, so we had to remake the bed using the other partial sheets from the other bed. In the morning when we checked out we informed the manager of the situation. The manager replied, "that's too bad! I'll make a note in the file. You still owe us $ in room taxes. Would you like me to put that on your credit card." They clearly did not care about our comfort and we will not stay there again.
As for the restaurant, while it has an awesome reputation, we found the food to be mediocre and the service lacking to say the least.
scenic on the lake getaway

The lake is beautiful. Stayed in an older cabin that accomodated family of 5. Boat rentals and more, avail at reasonable rates. Lake Manzanita is about 10 minutes away and another very beautiful, yet more peaceful lake. Great place to take the kids!
