NOT luxurious, NOT worth the hype

Wow, what a disappointment. The rooms in this hotel have a lack-luster, worn out modern decor that is done in a very poor color scheme. To say that the hotel room was DARK and oppressing is an understatement---even with all of the lamps turned on and the morning light coming through the window. And where are the luxurious touches in this hotel??? The hotel lounge and restaurant are trendy in appearance and quite bustling if you like that kind of thing, but the fare is definitely unremarkable. The concierge here is knowledgeable, but he can come off as snooty & condescending. Overall, this hotel attempts to come off as hip, modern, and luxurious but it has missed the mark by a long shot. This hotel lacks substance all together. I absolutely would not stay here again.

Stayed an extra night On March 27, 2009 because our plane was canceled. We decided to try the W New York instead of staying at the Westin. We were upgraded to a larger room and the staff was wonderful. The Blue Fin restaurant is excellent with the live Jazz music and of course the uniquie family room setting and chic bar on the 7th floor were outstanding in service and atmosphere. We go to New York twice a year for the theater and shopping. Great location. We will be staying at the W on our next visit.
If you want to stay in a closet...

My husband and I booked this hotel for our honeymoon. We booked a Mega Room, which was anything but. Maybe 450 square feet. It was basically a closet. We didn't have enough room to unpack our suitcases. The shower didn't close all the way so water got all over the floor. We were forced to stay one night and then we transferred to the Westin Times Square which was fabulous! The lounge at the W was busy every night if you like that sort of atmosphere. It was very trendy, but the service was poor. We also didn't appreciate the condoms for sale in the mini bar. All over it was a bad experience and we couldn't wait to get out of there. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who wants to get a good deal for their money.
The Look without the Substance

I stayed three nights on holiday, and I must say that there is nothing chic about being understaffed, slightly warn and rude. I chose W because of the buzz about its simplicity, but simplicity shouldn't translate into impracticality in the lack of bathroom space and storage. I'll spend my money elsewhere in future.
