Me and my family had stayed there on a day
that a pipe blew in grand central station, the hotel staff was so helpful,'
they even offerd that if we wanted to move to another hotel
that they would call, book, and pay for it
i was 15 at the time, but it was the best thing ever, we did not go to the other hotel, we stayed. every morning we got a free paper, and for room is ny there were big, and if you have ever stayed in ny you know the rooms are always small!
Very disappointing experience

We did not enjoy our stay at the Dylan. The rooms look nice with high ceilings and good designs and the beds are very comfortable but that was it. The 24 hour business center advertised on the internet is currently closed which was extremely inconvenient as we use the facilities to check into flights, and where other hotels will be happy to do that for you via the concierge or front desk, we were sent on a walk to the nearest Kincos in the rain with no apology for the trouble....the same front desk assistant was our non smiling check in lady who gave us no indication of the facilities the hotel had to offer (or indeed which were not available...), no suggestion of a map or any help with the city although we were clearly tourists, and reluctantly changed our room when we found we had a twin instead of a double although it took some insistence before she actually would move us. The water pressure in our bathroom was so poor that we had to have maintenance come and work on it before we could use it, and in the meantime we had to ask housekeeping for robes as although they are a feature of the rooms, apparently they are not provided automatically and you have to ask for them so if you need to call maintenance to work on the shower, ask for your robes to be brought up first....! The bathroom also is very smart but terribly designed, no shelf in the shower so all bottles have to be put on the floor and no space around the sink to put anything, it's extremely impractical. All in all for the same money in a similar great location there are plenty of other hotels that are better.
Nice Stay

My husband and I stayed for one night and were quite pleased with the hotel. The room and bathroom were very clean. It was a lot larger than I anticipated. I didn't, however, enjoy the bed. Too soft!

Solid 4-star Hotel with 5-star Staff
Before moving to New York, I have stayed many a night at NYC hotels, mostly five-star, but I would make an exception here and there with hotels like the Dylan.
I learnt about it because it's adjacent to the Benjamin SteakHouse, probably the second best steakhouse in all of New York (right after Peter Luger).
It's a 107-room boutique hotel. Used to be the Chemist's Club, but the Spanish company Hotusa bought it in mid 2007 and have been making renovations ever since -one of the most important ones, getting a new main a/c motor in June 2008- to update it and make it become a 4 and a half star hotel.
The hall is cute, not too big or too small and very modern looking. The rooms, even the standard ones (called luxury) are bigger than some of the 5-stars I have been to in New York (Grand Hyatt, just two streets away from the Dylan).
Rooms are nice, with high ceilings, usually spacious, each one with its own a/c-heating controls in the room (behind a metal panel that's on the wall, close to the bed... took me a couple of minutes to figure it out), desk, complementary high-speed wi-fi and cable internet, new flatscreen TVs, complementary safe, bathrooms are just a bit bigger than New York standards, kept perfectly clean and with surprisingly high-end amenities.
But the staff, most specially at the front desk, is simply the best I have yet encountered.
Courteous and ever-smiling, ready to help in any situation at all (even on behalf of non-guests), professional and knowledgeable. They are really amazing and I owe them more than one big one.
They certainly deserve every tip I have left them.
Other of the hotel's features are:
Restaurant and bar at the Benjamin SteakHouse
Room service from 7am to 10,30pm
The perfect location just two streets away from Gran Central Station and less than a 10 minute walk to Times Square
Valet parking
Business services (small, though, but many things will be done by the front desk if asked)
Fitness centre
Complementary newspaper if requested
Meeting space both in the hotel and in the restaurant
The hotel will become totally smoke-free as of January.
They are planning a HUGE room renovation (paint, furniture, bathrooms, carpeting and some of the common areas) starting in January.
I just can't wait to visit it again after the renovation.
Wonderful Stay!

My wife and I stayed for a few days while we were up for the lighting of the tree. It was a short walk to any of the sites that we were interested in seeing. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the room was actually bigger than we thought it would be, after seeing so many of the comments about Manhatten rooms. I'm only now writing this review because I'm about to book another stay at the Dylan!
