Wonderful accommodations, pool less than desirable

We were so thrilled with our room. It was spacious, had a wonderful view and the property looked lovely. Then we went to the pool. It was filled with bugs. Well, we thought maybe it was just because it had been a bit windy and would probably be better the next morning after a good cleaning.
During the FIVE days there, we only swam in the pool twice. Once it was clean, the other time we swam because it was really hot and a dirty pool was better than NO pool.
They really worked hard on weed eating, taking care of the outdoor surroundings, but they didn't clean the pool often enough.
What a shame. It's a wonderful property but I won't return.
Bad news at Wyndham Canoa Ranch

The HVAC system ran with such noise and force that is was impossible to sleep. It could not be turned off. The register was aimed directly at the bed resulting in a constant draft.
Both the clock and the hair dryer provided by the hotel were inoperable.
The room door was sticking and difficult to close.
The deficiencies noted above more than offset the cleanliness of the room, the pleasant and courteous staff and beautiful location. It was not a pleasant visit.

We did not like this hotel. The signage on the road was poor, the directions were confusing. We got there to check in at about 7 p.m. and the front door to the lobby did not always open, even if you had your outside key. At least 3 times, we had to wait for the person manning the desk to come and open the door (and it was cold, and our hands were full). We heard a lot of apologies from the front desk person. The rooms are not adequately sound proofed. I thought someone had actually entered the room when I was using the restroom because they were so loud. We stayed in the room for a few minutes, realized their TV and talking would be unbearable, and asked to have a different room. The other room was in a different building (away from our traveling partner). When we moved to that room, it had not been cleaned and there was an unmade bed, laudry strewn around, just a mess. Back to the main lobby, again waiting for the front door to open. We stayed in the same room with our traveling partner, more apologies from the front desk, and being told that that staff person was 'getting yelled at by guests all night'. We heard other guests from that room as well, every time a toilet flushed or the shower was run. While out in the lobby, we heard other guests asking about the lack of dishes and soap (for the condos that could be rented). I had asked the hotel to credit the cost of the second room and that took an additional block of time spelling names and giving addresses on the phone after dealing with the front lobby. We will not return.

Beware of the "standard rooms" at Canoa Ranch Resort. They have a patio door and balcony that faces directly into another room and two hallways. The suites are very nice though and the staff was friendly. Beautiful resort, very quiet.
