On the positive side, the talking birds in the lobby are fun. They entertain you while you stand in a very slow front-counter line. I've not experienced a check-in wait this long in years. The counter help were very slow, not focused, and I was ready to get to work.
The location on the water is great. The lake surrounding the hotel is connected by canal to the ocean, but no large boats were there while I was staying there. There's a walking path on the east side that leads to a gazebo on the lake. It's a great place to unwind by yourself.
The airport is very convenient. When American backs a 777 up to my window (or so it seemed) in the middle of the night and takes off, it gives a pretty good shake to those rooms on the east end of the hotel.
On-site dining is pretty good. The Coral Cafe serves fine food in a relaxed, tropical atmosphere. It features fresh fish and beef, but the fish is naturally the better of the two in this setting.
This hotel has the "fitness in your room" option, but they still charge $10 per day for Internet access.
The meeting space and meeting staff are above average. This would be a great place to fly in a team for a meeting, if the source locations included the U.S. and Central and South American countries. It's convenient to the airport and good enough for a couple of nights for an extended meeting.
Overall, it's not bad for a Hilton, but they're not helping to improve the brand.
