For frugal travelers

The building is really old, I wouldn't be surprised it's a hundred years old. The hotel is right at the corner of Bush and Grant. I got the room on the second floor at the corner. It was very noisy. I booked the room for 3 person but only got two sets of towels. I explained to the front desk person and asked for an extra set. He just gave me a suspicious look and only gave me a bath towel without sayinng anything. That was rude. There was no hair dryer as the hotel description claimed. The door of the safe was shut so it couldn't be used. There was absolutely no water pressure from the shower !!! Check out time was noon but my flight wasn't until midnight. Good thing the hotel accomodates temporary storage of our lugguages. The location is also withing walking distance to the train station where I could hop right on to the airport. This is the second time I stayed at this hotel. I couldn't find any other place for this location and rate. It's right at the south entrance of Chinatown, within walking distance to union square, embarcadero and the civic center. This time I only stayed one night.

Location suited us for the Nike Women's Marathon; 3 blocks from Union Square. Plenty of noise from the street but none from other hotel guests. There were little kids and older foks there, so the atmosphere was safe. Staff was pleasant and let us keep our luggage at the front desk between check out and when we were ready to leave town. Rooms are small and it's obviously an old building. The bathmat really was paper; I sort of didn't believe that when I read the other review. It had a picture of a seahorse which was graphically designed circa 1952 & says "Your Personal Bath Mat". No lotion, but small bar soap, shampoo/conditioner, individually wrapped drinking cups and a shower cap are provided. A hair dryer is listed as coming with the room; you have to check it out from the front desk which we never figured out until we were leaving. No,ironing board, coffee maker or TV remote and the paint could have used some freshening (lots of chips). No bathtub; just a stand up shower, but roomy. Th whole bathroom was good sized and the closet was huge. It was a good price for the area and I'd stay again to keep expenses low.

Good Bargain

No frills, your basic bed, sink and shower. Has tv with remote. Perfect for those that are world travelers more interested in what?s going on outside the room. Great bargain for the location!!

Terrible shower pressure, hot water took 10 minutes to come on, poor continental breakfast, toilet leaked...

Will return!

"We had lowered expectations because of unrealistic price. We were surprised by the helpful staff, a very clean room, and a safe neighborhood. If you are happy with basic accomodations, you will enjoy this hotel. We will return!"
