Description: I am always coming to Portland for leisure and business trips and have stayed in various hotels in the area. I have stayed at Hotel Monaco now numerous times and will continue to come back based on how satified I have been with my previous stays.
First off, this hotel ranks number one out of ALL hotels I have been to for customer service. Whether I book a room through Priceline or directly through the hotel itself, I am always treated like their most coveted customer. Upon checking in, every employee goes out of their way to answer questions and make sure your stay is excellent. On numerous occasions, I have been complimentary upgraded to a king suite (even if I did bid through Priceline) and that type of service will not be forgotten. On a few stays, I have also been able to negotiate a price on my room and was able to get killer deals! This hotel is top notch.
The Hotel Monaco (a Kimpton hotel) is a boutique hotel located in a renovated historic building right in downtown Portland. The location could not get any better! The lobby is grand, yet comfortable and decorated in a Moroccan motif. Every night they host a happy hour with complimentary cocktails and wine. The rooms are also decorated in the same style as the lobby. The king rooms are on the smaller side, but extremely quiet and comfortable and done up with high end finishes. The king suites offer a larger layout with a bedroom separated from a living area with large sliding doors. All rooms however have large windows that let in ample light and offer stunning city views.
Hotel Monaco is a smaller hotel, so it does not offer a pool or spa area. However, there is an Aveda spa on the property that offers in room services. There is also a smaller but very nice 24 hour fitness center with a variety of TV tuned machines as well as free weights. I have never used the business center but it is also complimentary. For those who don't like going to the business center to get on the computer, the hotel offers free in room WIFI to Kimpton In Touch members, which is a free membership with points and perks at Kimpton hotels.
Overall, I would have to say this hotel ranks very high on my list. Not because of the rooms or the ammenities, but because of the service. Yeah, I have probably stayed at a hotel with nicer rooms and more ammenities but nothing beats how you were treated when you stayed there. Don't get me wrong though, the property is beautiful, the rooms...wonderful and location is excellent. I love this hotel and will continue to be a returning customer for years to come! Yay for Hotel Monaco!
