Mostly Good Things

Stayed here on a price-line deal.

Room was spacious with two very comfortable double beds, light down comforter, nice pillows. I loved the walk in closet area off to the side which allowed us to put all our bags and other items there so as to keep the bedroom area looking nice.
The TV or its reception was problematic - annoying static on several channels that would not go away. TV's are not flat panel.

Building is beautiful, ornate, lots of mouldings. Health club area is nice as is the heated pool in the lower level.

Parking is very pricey so park in the Pershing Square lot across the street for $15 a day. There was lots of security present in the underground lot when we stayed there.

Pershing square had ice skating, bands, and food booths while we were there. Goes on until the 18th of Jan. I think.

A vegan bakery up the street at 130 E. 6th street (6th and Los Angeles) was new and fun to try. LA Blu cafe is also on 6th street and had a great burger and salad. There is a Rite Aid one block up from Pershing Square for necessities and a little market around the corner from the hotel for fruit, cereal etc...

Overall, a nice place to stay downtown if you are able to obtain a good price.

Spectacular Setting, OK staff

Physically the Millenium Biltmore is great. The rooms are comfortable, the sauna, steam bath, pool, and health club facilities are fine, and the lobby area and meeting rooms are spectacular. Our room was well-maintained. The desk staff is a little spotty. Our registration clerk was a bit short, and the concierges (several); didn't seem to have a good working knowledge of the area?how buses, shuttles or subway run, for instance?without looking it up. This is not trivial, because there are different published schedules on the weekends, for instance. (It IS possible to not have a car in Los Angeles.) See if ONLINE TRAVEL WEBSITE or Desk Staff can upgrade you to the Club Floors, which have food (and drink?) included in the room fees. This was not a ONLINE TRAVEL WEBSITE option and I would take it if it were. To the staff's credit, when I complained about noisy roomers one night at 3 AM in our hallway, they immediately sent someone up to deal with them.

Historic!

Solid hotel service in an amazing building. Check out the pool and the "historic hallway" with photos of old Hollywood parties and Academy Awards ceremonies held in the hotel. Parking is way expensive, $40/night, but you can park in Pershing Square garage across Olive St. for about $15/night if you don't need to go in and out very often. My only major complaint was the noise - our room window was over the air conditioner and it was very, very noisy all the time - even with the window closed. Also there was street noise and occasionally sirens. You can walk to Little Tokyo (almost a mile) but you have to go through about two blocks of business district that's abandoned after 5 to homeless folk - a little creepy but I didn't feel unsafe. We mainly explored there and in the little market near the hotel - lots of yummy-looking Mexican and Chinese food, plus veg and fruit stalls.

Great historic hotel

I grew up in suburban L.A., but had never stayed downtown, so took advantage of the fact that my wife were catching an early train departing from Union Station to stay at the Biltmore. We asked if we could get a room with a safe in it, and the clerk upgraded us to a Club Level room. It was spacious and had a nice view of Pershing Square, which was full of ice skaters for the Xmas season. The main hallway of the hotel was atmospheric and historic. Old photos looked like scenes from "The Shining." We felt safe walking to a restaurant at night. We did have two (very expensive) drinks at the hotel's bar. There's quite a lot of interest in downtown, including the Bradbury Building, Grand Central Market, Angels Flight, and many stores and restaurants. Easy access to a subway station.

Beyond expectations

The hotel is gorgeous. The lobby and ballrooms are magnificent. My room was a standard king which was large and well maintained. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was a little small but adequate. Dinner and breakfast was very good but a little pricey. I did not park there because it was $$$ expensive. However, there is parking right across the street if you take the elevator to the ground floor and go out those doors. The hotel is located downtown which is easy access to many attractions. The business center in the hotel made it very easy to print a boarding pass for the flight home.
