Description: We stayed at the Little America Hotel in downtown Salt Lake City. The location was excellent (for reference, Temple Square, the main downtown attraction, was 4 blocks away; the Salt Palace Convention Center was 3 blocks up and 2 blocks over). Unlike many other downtown hotels, the Little America had free parking (others charge from $5-$10/day) and a free shuttle to/from the airport. The advertised prices are around $130 per night, but we found a special rate on Expedia.com and if you call the hotel directly, they will offer discounted rates (We paid $85/wkday and $112/wkend for a huge suite).
Enough about the practical details - this hotel was like heaven! There are two main areas in the hotel: garden view rooms and the tower. We stayed in the tower. The garden view rooms are a bit cheaper, but many of them are directly on the street and just didn''t look as nice as the tower rooms. Our room was 600 sq. ft. - which is the standard size for tower rooms (they do come even bigger!) This was the largest hotel room I have ever stayed in. The room was divided into three main sections. First, the bathroom/dressing area. The bathroom was huge, with marble floors, lots of counterspace, a large oval tub/shower, fluffy towels, cushy rugs, and really good-smelling soap (I forget the name). The only complaint I had was that the shower head was way too low (I''m 5''7" and it was below the top of my head - my 6''5" husband had one heck of a time with it). Immediately outside the bathroom, there was a dressing room with another sink and a vanity, a closet (with a safe) and a chest of drawers. This was a very nice arrangement when both of us were trying to get ready in the morning.
The sleeping area, with a king bed (and feather pillows), was spacious. The bed was very comfortable. There was a very large television and more drawers. The hotel also provides a nightly turndown service and they leave these wonderful chocolate mints on your pillow (also available in the gift shop - they are that good!).
But wait, there''s more - a lot more! There is also a sitting room with a couch, a desk, and a couple tables and chairs. We had a great view from the full length windows of the city and the mountains beyond.
I had wanted to try the Sunday brunch at the hotel (which is legendary), but we were there on Mother''s Day and the line was at least an hour long. However, if you find yourself there on a non-holiday Sunday, I''ve heard it''s wonderful!
