Great location

The Blake is on Chicago's Printers Row. The Tribune's "Lit Fest" was scheduled for the same weekend as our visit, which was a lot of fun and did not disrupt our stay at all. The hotel staff was friendly, the room was clean and comfortable and there are nearby restaurants and attractions.

The Blake - What a Find!

Very friendly, accommodating staff! We especially loved Greg the doorman. He had a recommendation for everything! The location can't be beat - so close to public transportation. The beds were VERY comfortable. The bathrooms are luxurious. Great Deal!

Great for the price!

My teen son & I came for Easter Weekend. I was happy with this hotel and the great deal I got with my package. All the staff I dealt with were extremely friendly, the room was clean, the bathroom huge & the beds comfy. I did not care for the pillows (way to soft) but we had plenty of them. There was no alarm clock in our room. No vending machine in the hotel for water or pop. I had no problem with noise and we were on the 2nd floor. It's a city, you will hear some street traffic the closer you are to the streets but it wasn't anything unusual or unbearable. Yes the elevators are a little slow. The breakfast was less than I expected-some donuts, bagels, apples, oranges, bananas, but I'm not much of a breakfast eater and it was always pretty busy. The sandwich & pizza places as well as Starbucks are right outside the hotel for a convenient meal & dunken donuts is 1 block over. There was always a taxi or two out front whenever we left the hotel. This felt like a very safe neighborhood. Short cab rides to the aquarium, Field Museum. Sears Tower is within walking distance as well as other restaurants. If you're looking for good shopping, take a cab. All in all I would recommend this hotel unless the cost is unimportant. It was a nice place and a decent location.

Okay

Okay place to stay & great location. However, the streets were loud and the vents in the rooms were noisy. The breakfast was supposed to end at 10 am. I went down to get breakfast at 9:45 am and they only thing they had left were oranges and decaf coffee. Our hotel room view was a brick wall. Some handles on the drawers were missing/broken. There was mildew in the bathroom ceiling. The fitness room had broken machines. Also, our cards kept reseting, so we could not get in our room when we wanted to. Overall I have stayed better places downtown Chicago for the same price.

Good Price but Nothing Exceptional

The rooms are large and cozy with large bathrooms. Unfortunately, water seemed to leak out of the European tile/glass shower design onto the floor. I liked the idea though--seems like it should work better. There is a lot of street noise that we're not used to, and the fans would've been good to block it out for sleeping had they stayed on. Most hotels I've been to allow you to run a fan all night if you want. This didn't. So, sleep wasn't real good, and when the drunks down the hall came in at 2a.m., we heard it all. One night we smelled sewer, wafting in occasionally during one of our four nights there. Our room didn't have a coffee maker, and we were told we couldn't get one. That was very disappointing to me, though there is a continental breakfast, and if you can wait until 7a.m., you can walk down in your p.j.s and get some coffee while the well-dressed business people look on. The wireless Internet was not working properly when we were there.

We were in Chicago for leisure, so we were not in our room much. If you can overlook the details, it would be a fine place to stay for walking to museums or shopping. Good amount of walking, but we like to walk. Seemed like a safe neighborhood. Doormen are very nice and human, while desk ladies are nice but if you have problems, I wouldn't expect them to be able to do anything for you. I'm sure their hands are tied by management and they deal with a lot of morons.
