This hotel was unaccomodating, on sunday the restaurants and shops are closed, so if you get hungry, your in trouble and newark is not the best city to walk around when it start getting dark. I had drunken guy banging on my door in the middle of the night, lock yourself in once your inside the hotel. The only good thing is that they kept the rooms clean but cleaning staff is gone by 4pmm so try to keep it clean after that.

Wonderful Stay

I enjoyed my stay at the Robert Treat Hotel. The staff was very cordial, helpful and accommodating. I had my "do not disturb" sign on the door for a few days, and my housekeeper called my room and said, she didn't mean to bother me, but she just wanted to know if I needed anything. I thought that showed good customer service. She could've just passed right by, but she didn't. I actually needed some towels. They had shuttles to the airport and Penn Station. It was located in the heart of downtown near the NJ PAC. No complaints.

Horrible Staff and Managers

They were rude and unhelpful. Failed to bring fresh towels on one day - after call to front desk one hour later still no towels - went to front desk and ask for towels that never came. Found a laundry person in hallway that only wanted to give one towel. Begged for enough for family to get them. Front desk would not stop the rucus in the room next to us - they told me that calling the people a second time "would be mean". I kid you not. The only redemming thing about the place is the shuttle - it is free to Penn station.

Surprised!

I had read the reviews and I was a bit nervous to stay, especially since it was just me and my two young sons. But the price was right ($*) and we would save a lot of money during our week. The room was beautiful!!! We had brand new everything--carpet, furniture, even our clean shower curtain was changed while we were there. It was spotlessly cleaned each day. They even started a guest lounge that had a free continental breakfast and snacks throughout the day--nice touch. The fitness room appeared to be brand new and they even set up a new business room with about 4 computers during our stay. The reviews mentioned a less-than-hospitable staff and I would have to agree. Not one front desk member was ever nasty but it seemed that a few lessons in a welcoming, customer service attitude are in order. The shuttle goes to the airport and Penn Station every hour but at 11:00 one day, the driver was aready at the airport and I would have to wait until 12:00 to get to Penn Station. We walked. It was scorching hot that day and it would have been nice to save the walk. They need to rethink the shuttle system so that it is useful to guests. Other than that, the neighborhood seems safe, at least from the station to the hotel. We vacationed in NYC each day, which was easy using the PATH from Penn, and paid way less and got so much more than we would in NYC.

Rude Staff

Don't count on any help from the staff, especially the front desk or shuttle drivers. They make you feel as if you are inconveniencing them by staying there. Waited nearly 2 hours for shuttle from the airport. We also made the mistake of getting into the shuttle 2-3 minutes before it was due to depart to the airport. The driver, who happened to be sleeping in the shuttle, told us to get out. They also quoted us one rate and then charged us a higher rate for our room.
