Best Things About the Resort:
Long Wharf Resort is conveniently located in the center of Newport near the harbor. Enjoy the indoor/outdoor pool and a second seasonal outdoor pool open May to October, indoor and outdoor hot tubs, excercise room, games room, 35-person movie theater with nightly movies, coin-operated laundry, an activities program, and a sauna room.

They had a number of events scheduled, even in the off season, but the only one we participated in was movie night. They have their own little movie theater there and give you a little popcorn if you want it. The game room is rather small, with one air hockey table, one pool table, and a couple video games.

Resort Experience:
We stayed at the Long Wharf Resort as an extra vacation. We only stayed 4 nights of the week, but for $199, it was a great deal for a two-bedroom. Newport does not shut down in the winter; the shops and restaurants stay open, at least through Christmas. There are a number of mansions in the area that are decorated for the holidays that you can tour as well. My son is in his first year at the University of Rhode Island, so that was another reason we looked to stay in Newport. We had never been here before, and we invited him and his girlfriend to come visit us while we were there. The unit was well kept and the furnishings in good shape. There was not a lot of extra cupboard space for your groceries, but the kitchen seemed to be pretty well stocked; although there wasn't a can opener. There was a full stove and refrigerator, plus a microwave. The dining area opened into the living area. I liked that the spare bedroom and bath were at the opposite end from the master bedroom and bath, giving privacy that a lot of resorts don’t offer. They had daily trash/towels, with a midweek cleaning. The housekeeping staff was very friendly. The only complaint was that they are stingy with the towels and we never had washcloths after the first day. We declined the tour and they did not pressure us. It was convenient that we were not staying the full week. The swimming pool is an indoor/outdoor pool with a small water slide indoors. There is a sauna under the water-slide area and a hot tub both inside and out. I didn’t swim outdoors, but I did go in the hot tub. You have to get there quickly, as it is cold outside, but once in, it was really nice. I eventually got so hot, I had to sit out on the edge or stand up for a while to cool off. I liked sitting here at night watching the stars. The whole staff was very friendly and they had little typed-up directions for places like the grocery store, shore, etc. We went to the cliff walk, which was nice, and they told us which end to start at to get the best walk since some of it is closed for construction. While it was more or less a romantic stay for us, there were plenty of families there as well. We were right down the street from downtown, so it was easy to walk to restaurants and shops. We got a lot of walking that weekend, and I even lost weight! We would return here again.

Best Things Nearby:
No visit to Newport would be complete without walking the famous 3-mile Cliff Walk, which takes hikers along the Atlantic Ocean and past numerous mansions. There is sailing on Narragansett Bay, beaches nearby, great golfing, and plenty of shopping. Newport has some of the freshest seafood from the Atlantic Ocean, and the hardest thing will be trying to decide which restaurants to enjoy during your stay.

Best Things About the Resort:
The resort has an indoor/outdoor swimming pool, a second outdoor pool, gas grills next to a cabana for outdoor grilling, chaise lounges, indoor hot tub, saunas, and a great exercise room.

Resort Experience:
The Long Wharf Resort is in the heart of Newport, the beautiful City-by-the Sea. The two-bedroom units are nicely appointed, with twin beds in the guest bedroom and a private guest bath, and a king-size bed in the master bedroom with a nice master bath featuring a one-person whirlpool tub/shower. The kitchen is a galley kitchen with all appliances. During my stay, the resort brought in new kitchen tables and chairs over the week to every unit. The living room has a pull-out sofa, a large color TV, and some comfy chairs. The resort has a very limited satellite TV selection of channels, which was the only disappointment.

All in all, the resort is a great place to stay and is within 100 yards of the shoreline. There is 24-hour security, and parking permits are strictly enforced.

The town and port were the best. It was easy to walk to town for shopping or to go to a restaurant. The mansions are fabulous; buy a ticket for multiple mansion tours to save money.

Best Things About the Resort:
There is a very friendly staff. They have a small movie theater on the property, with two movies each night (one G and one PG rated) with free popcorn. There is a nice indoor pool with a hot tub and waterslide. There is an outdoor pool and barbeque grills. At the front desk you can buy tickets to local attractions for a discount.

Resort Experience:
There is a lot to do in the area. When you arrive, take a guided bus tour of Newport. It will give you a good background of the city and show you places you may want to visit later on your own.

There are many places nearby that have bike trails. We took our bikes and went to the Colt State Park and the East Bay Bike Trail. Also, go on the Cliff Walk behind the mansions along the ocean.

Best Things Nearby:
Restaurants and shopping are within walking distance. Mansions, Fort Adams, and Ocean Drive are a short drive away. The Visitor's Center/public transportation are right around the corner.

Best Things About the Resort:
Very friendly and helpful staff, indoor & outdoor pool, offered free Spirit of Newport Harbor Tour and 2 for 1 meals at the Marriott Restaurant next door (but the front desk had to make the reservation for you). They sent you daily updates about the next day's activities.

Resort Experience:
They are remodeling/refurbishing. Unfortunately, they hadn't gotten to the unit we were booked in yet. But it was clean. We found it hard to check in. It wasn't well marked. We weren't thrilled with the welcome presentation. It was actually a sales pitch. The woman told us about the point system and how much it would cost us to convert. When we told her we weren't interested, she told us that eventually we would only be able to go to the resorts we owned and not be able to trade into other places. During the course of the week, we spoke to members who bought there and they were VERY upset, needless to say.

This was a very basic hotel; it had tea and coffee things, an IDD phone, a TV that worked, separate bathroom, the bed was OK. My room didn't have a window and I guess I could have upgraded but I was on a tiny budget so I didn't. I was out most of the time so I did not see the room much. The bathroom was spotless and the water was hot.
