Good choice for families

We ended a 10-day tour of the southwest with a two night stay in a suite. The room was huge, luxurious and clean. The beds were such a treat after camping and other lesser-quality hotels we had stayed in. The kids loved both the indoor and outdoor pools. We did not use the restaurants or casino. We would highly recommend this hotel for families with kids.
I chose this hotel based on price. The other high-end hotels in Santa Fe were a lot more expensive, maybe not as kid friendly(?), and this was an easy 10-15 minute drive to the plaza downtown. As the other reviewers said this was a great respite from the busy downtown.
My only complaint and it it very small, was that the desk clerk that checked us in was not very welcoming. It's true that we had camped at Mesa Verde the night before and were a little worse for the wear, but that does not excuse the clerk. He just didn't make me feel welcome. I
Great stay in unique, very comfortable hotel.

A truly friendly greeting at the front door was the first event in a very pleasant experience that far exceeded my expectations. As a business traveler staying in a resort hotel, I expected some challenges. Not so -- the efficiency at check-in, early morning newspaper, large and well-appointed room, internet access, outstanding exercise facility, quiet, and more electrical outlets in the room than any place I've been made this a good business stay.
I've visited Santa Fe a fair amount and it's a great place. But it can be a bit of a zoo at times and frequently trips there are anything but relaxing. The Buffalo Thunder is close enough to enjoy Santa Fe's restaurants/art/history or to conduct business without a lot of driving, and with a peaceful hotel to return to. And there's a high-class casino, an outstanding golf course, incredible art, and the unique Northern New Mexico pueblo culture -- all right there. The staff were very competent and professional, rooms and public spaces very clean. I look forward to staying again.
Service issues

Encountered a check in delay of over 1 hour (system was down) -- this was not really the hotel's fault; hotel passed out bottled waters to those waiting - nothing else was offered. This wait was after driving 11 hours from Texas.
The first morning we realized we only had 3 towels in room (for family of 4)---had to call front desk, concierge, and manager (total of 5 calls) to get addtional towels---took over 1 hour.
Room service took 1 hour 20 minutes to deliver a salad. Did not bring extra dressing as requested. Food was fair.
Coffee maker in room did not work: Informed front desk 2 or 3 times but it was never replaced.
Prices (room service, restaurant, vending) very high. Examples: Full breakfast for four was $80, vending soft drinks $2.00, room service: sandwiches > $12 each + 21% gratuity + $4.00 delivery charge.
Always a line at front desk. Calls to front desk often unanswered.
Had to go down to front desk to have them call housekeeping about dry cleaning not delivered to room on time.
Hotel did remove from bill several Starbucks coffees charged to room. Staff was apologetic for problems.
Staff was very friendly.
Food was average to good in buffet. Very good in restaurants. Just fair for room service.
Seldom could find a bellman to help with luggage.

We have been traveling to Santa Fe for years and downtown is very historic, but if you want a beautiful, large, luxurious room and hotel, and great workout rooms and SPAs and a fantastic casino, very conveniently located to Santa Fe, and not too crowded, then this hotel is it. It is running specials so the prices are competitive, but the hotel is the best, bar none.
