Great place to stay

Every thing I would want in a hotel. The location is great to enjoy Manhatan. The price was reasonalbe. The hotel was beautiful and the staff was polite, friendly and helpful from check-in to housekeepping. They graciously printed my boarding passes for my flight home. Our room had two double beds as requested at booking and was clean and amazingly quiet despite the adjacent rooms being occupied. The windows would open if we wanted and the room darkening curtains were much appreciated in the mornings.

Were well pleased with our room and service.

We (2 of us) were there 22-25 (checking out on the 26th) of Dec. 08. The price we paid for those days was fantastic for NYC according to prices I am seeing for other dates. Maybe that was a "low season" price. We arrived by Amtrak - so rolling our 2 pieces of luggage across the street was very convenient. We thought the place was very nice - have done a lot of traveling - we go to see the area - not to live in a room (we've been to London and lots of cruises - so the size of our room was just fine)! This was our first time to NYC and although it was freezing cold - we didn't mind the walk to Times Square/Rockefeller Center and didn't feel it was too far to walk. We walked it several times - some being around 10:30 or 11:00 pm and didn't feel uncomfortable doing so. The staff was courteous and the information desk personnel was very helpful and friendly. We were on the 28th floor with a corner room overlooking the Hudson River and the room was clean and comfortable. The location was great and I would certainly consider staying there again if the price was right for the time I want.

best New Year's stay

The only downside was having to pay the $***+ rate just for New Year's Eve, but that's to be expected in a high-traffic town on a night when everyone wants to be in NYC. Room was a bit tiny and dated (art deco motif), but comfortable. Wi-fi access, but no business center. VERY convenient location, with two restaurants in house, professional and courteous staff. Restaurants, convenience store, shops are across the street, several open 24 hrs. Subway stations are on both corners of the block, plus Penn Station, post office, Macys, Broadway and Times Sq within easy walking distance. Recommended for anyone wanting to spend more time exploring the city, rather than being cooped up inside the room.

Hotel was okay.

The Hotel New Yorker was okay. The rooms are very, very small, but not by NY standards. We had a queen bed which was very comfortable, with two nightstands and a small desk. That left just enough room to walk around the bed. You could not stand at the foot of the bed and open the closet at the same time. We were on the 25th floor. The bathrooms were very dated. Supposedly they just went through major renovations. The lobby was nice and the Tic Tock restaurant connected to the hotel was very convenient. They were open I believe 24 hours a day with a variety of food to choose from. Not sure if I would stay here again. It was quite a walk to Times Square. The staff were excellent and very accomodating.

Enjoyed our stay.

We selected this hotel mainly because the price was one of the best rates during the holidays. We traveled with two small children (8 & 5 years) and using Google Street View I scouted around the hotel and we welcomed a McDonalds and TGI Fridays directly across the street. The Lobby looked to have been recently restored to its early grandeur with marble flooring and trim. The elevators to the room were monitored by a hotel staff and the overall first impressions exceeded our expectations. The staff was good and helpful to us. Our room although small was better than we expected. We stayed in room 3616 and was a compact room with two double beds, but well layed out. Other family traveling with us were placed in a room which had a His & Her bathroom and about twice the size of our room. The bathrooms wre clean, but lacked self space due to the use of a pedestal sink. The beds were comfortable and we all had good night's sleep. Each room was equipped with a large screen plasma TV. The rooms lacked a refrig or Wi-Fi. Overall we would consider this hotel again.
