Ocean Reef Resort and Yacht Club

The Ocean Reef is an enclosed resort with 2 pools; it is about 10 minutes from the International Market, and 15 minutes from Port Lucaya. There are different types of accommodations and are very nice. When I travel there I stay in the 3-bedroom villas that are town-house style fully equipped with a kitchen, 3 bathrooms, 3 decks, your own personal grill, and a car port. There is a computer room in the main building where the 2-bedroom suites are, that area looks more like a hotel, the space is small but is very nice.  The Resort has daily activities and there is a shuttle bus on the premises that takes you to the grocery and liquor stores, usually on the first night you arrive. I suggest buying a few groceries if you are staying more than a week; the food is expensive in Freeport! I even bring dry goods with me in my luggage, like chips, coffee, spices, etc. The pool area near the villa units is usually very quiet and serene. However, there is another pool closer to the front of the resort where most of the activities are, like bingo, welcome parties, banquets, etc.  The view from the back of the resorts overlooks the canal, which is beautiful, the water is a blue-green and it looks unreal. I love it! There is a beach within walking distance (10 minutes) you also have the option of taking the shuttle there. It’s called Coral Beach and it’s very nice, there is a full-service bar that has pretty good snacks and drinks. Bring cash. They rent out chairs on that beach for about 2 bucks.  There is also a little hut located in the driveway of the resort that is open at night, they serve grilled seafood, chicken, etc. The food is great, I'm not sure if the place is owned by locals or the resort, but I have seen other vacationers eating there too.

Highlights:

This is not a place to go unless all you plan to do is dive and you have your own boat. The dive shop is great. The living quarters are swarming inside with ants. The activities listed don't necessarily happen. They say there are boats but they are all out of commission. This has been a boring vacation for our young children until we discovered the Sheraton!

Best Things Nearby:
Port Lucaya, International Bazaar, Downtown, and Duty-Free Liquor Stores

Best Things About the Resort:
The staff is great. Every day there is a different activity at the resort.

Resort Experience:
The Ocean Reef Yacht Club and Resort is a nice resort. The rooms are nice and comfortable. This resort is located away from Port Lucaya and the beautiful beaches located by the Sheraton and Our Lucaya. You must either take a cab (which can get expensive) or a bus for $1, but there is no schedule for the buses.

The resort only has one place to eat, Groupers. Groupers is expensive, but most of the restaurants on the island are pricey. You can grocery shop, but everything is imported which is really expensive. No matter what, you can't win. If you like to party, then it’s a must to hook up with the natives, because we had a great time. We went to 8 Mile Rock (all natives), a fish fry (tourist), and then the block party down the road from the fish fry (natives once again). For Friday night, La Tropica is a native club located in the International Bazaar, which is mostly reggae and reggae rockers. We had a great time there. Charles and Debbie at the resort host a trip to Lucayan National Park, which was fun. There are beautiful beaches you must see, with lots of Bahamian punch.

Tranquility Beach

Best Things About the Resort:
Very clean, nice place. My friend bought a week there because he was so impressed by it.

Resort Experience:
The week in the Bahamas was great. The staff was very helpful and there were daily tours to various local attractions. My friends particularly liked the day spent touring the Garden of the Groves. We had a digital camera and took some great pictures of the local wildlife.

Tranquility Beach was great. You could swim there, walk along the shore, and the peace and quiet was great. It was like having your own, personal beach!

The casino wasn’t too bad, either. A great place to stay with a nice pool and hot tub.

Best Things Nearby:
Port Lucaya Market Place is in one direction and the International Bazaar is in the other direction. The resort is about in the middle of both. Great shopping!

Best Things About the Resort:
The people were wonderful. They couldn't help you enough. Genie was the best – she always kept you busy. There are two pools located at the resort and they are very clean.

Resort Experience:
They have a bus that takes you into Port Lucaya every day at 10am -- you can either go to the beach or shop and the bus will pick you up at 2pm. They have a bus to take you food shopping every day. They have tours every day and they are always trying to keep everyone involved. The Bahama Mama's were the best.

They have washers and dryers centrally located and they are very clean. The grounds were beautiful.
