Great time in my own back yard

Needed to get away for a girls vacation overnight, and this was it. I have been here for public events before but never to stay and I am glad I did. Booked a whirlpool suite with flat screen TV that is nicer than some casinos with same amenities. And it's a lot cheaper than most of those, too. Great bar and bartenders, lobby bar, best restaurant in this county -- you'll pay a lot for the drinks, food, and wine, but every bit of it's worth every penny (wild game, seafood, Wine Spectator rated wine list, etc.). We had such a good time I absolutely forgot I live in this area and work a block away. In the morning, I had to beg room service to go slower! Most places never deliver on time, this hotel can get food to you early. My one complaint -- it's a lovely vintage hotel, and of course like any hotel doesn't have the unsafe exterior entrances that a lot of motels do, but it still uses regular door keys rather than electronic cards. I don't know which is better for security, I don't think the keys had a room number on them (and key cards can store info about you), but if that seems insecure to you, you might prefer a newer establishment. I like elegant, and most newer hotels simply aren't. The Yorktowne is.

Great place, Great location

Situated right in downtown makes this hotel very convenient. Excelent atmosphere and proximity to local restaurants. Though the rooms may be on the small side, they are very well appointed and clean. Lobby staff are very courteous and helpful. Does not have all of the amenities of some of the more modern hotels but has nice clean rooms and high speed internet. Would definately stay again.

Yorktowne Hotel

An historic 11-story hotel, the Yorktowne is located in downtown York, one block from the city center square. The hotel is maintained with the flavor of hotels of the 1920s, when the Yorktowne was originally opened. The hotel''s guest registry includes Ella Fitzgerald, Richard Nixon, Frank Sinatra, and Margaret Thatcher. As the most elegant hotel in the city, many performers to the nearby Strand Capitol for Performing Arts are hosted by the Yorktowne during their stay in the area.

Rooms and suites are nicely appointed with period furniture. Comfy king size beds come with a surplus of 6 pillows for slumbering enjoyment. Since the hotel is the tallest building downtown, many rooms have excellent views of the Courthouse domes or Reservoir Hill.

The lobby retains its original elegance and leads toward the Commonwealth Room, a four-diamond restaurant with excellent Sunday brunches.

Situated downtown the hotel makes a perfect weekend base for taking in dinner and drinks on a Friday night, and the Central Market and Rail Trail on Saturday.
