I'm always pleased at this hotel. We are frequent Portland visitors. This location is next to
'restaurant row', great shopping, and though we had a 'garden view ' room, we had glimpses of the water and great sky! Friendly, accomodating....great experience.

Stay started with no visible valet, since they charge for valet parking... but no-one in sight to park the car.. Someone finally materialized after having to call the front desk from the phone in the garage... This place is under renovations, we were able to check in, only to be told that there maybe some noise due to the building being worked on... My last visit they were still workig on it, could look past it, but it is still a work in progress,,, we thought the rooms were being worked on, but they are still the same..Rooms small, average - certainly not "luxury" as described on the phone during booking - last stay was in a much nicer room.... Had to be careful were you step in halls - room service trays are constant obstacles.. they never were removed in the 24 hours we were there.. Noisy Noisy Noisy - called to complain - nothing was done - told that we were warned about the street noise, but about the 'club" thumping beat next door - who builds a hotel next to a pack of nught clubs... Wouldn't stay here again, once was tolerable, but for the money.. I'd stay at some B&B! Atleast breakfast would be included!
Terrible Experience

Billed as luxury Jr. Suite, room was small, poorly furnished & way overpriced. "Jacuzzi" is oversize bathtub for extra $100. Furniture dirty and stained, bed soft and uncomfortable. Hotel is run by what appears to be inexperienced, unkempt teenagers with no social graces. Front desk attendant greeted us with "So how are you guys?" Breakfast not included for $280 room. For $15 mandatory valet parking, attendant could not drive stick shift - he called front desk attendant who got in car and began grinding gears - I took over rather than risk damage. 2 days after EST time change, hotel clocks had not been adjusted and we got wake-up one hour early at 4:45am. Dirty glasses and dishes stacked in hallway outside of our room. When directed to our room (no help with bags) room had not been cleaned, young man overseeing cleaning said in front of us "I can't believe they sent them up". I suggest strongly that travelers stay far away from this place. Better a Motel 6 for $80, and get a $200 bottle of wine with dinner.
DON'T STAY AT THIS HOTEL

I booked my stay over the phone at the hotel -- not using any internet booking services - thinking that way I would get a better room. The hotel has two sides, one facing the bay and city and another facing a courtyard and wall. They tell you the city side is slightly more loud with city sounds. I took the city side and at 11 pm on the first night of my stay realized how loud loud was. Two clubs operate directly outside the hotel with live amplified music, DJ'S and open doors to the street. The sound was deafening and didn't end until after 2 am. The front desk rudely told me, because I took the city side room, the noise was my problem. Effectively they said I was cheap booking the city side and it was my fault. I have never stayed in a 'high end' hotel with this kind of noise or attitude.I have even contacted the Maine AGs office to report their deception. Don;t stay at this place. They are deceptive in booking and rude after the fact.
Poor service and poor value for money

Guaranteed the room ahead, knowing we'd arrive late. Supposed to be the best hotel in town. Were told we got the last room at US$* + taxes. Arrived at 11.30pm, drove into car park where big sign says valet parking only, but no valet. Up to reception- no receptionist, but 2 heavy security guards, who don't know anything. We wait 10 minutes before receptionist arrives. He explains that he is the ONLY person on duty & has to cover room service, the reception, the car park, & answer all guests' calls. This for a hotel that sells itself on service! We ask to see the room. He can't accompany us, hands us the key, & we strongly suspect that the bedsheets have been slept in. Certainly, they are crumpled & the pillows dented. But as it is the only room available in town, we take it. We shower, but as this was a room for someone in a wheelchair (we were told this on booking) there is no raised step to prevent the water from flooding the floor, which it duly does. Then we can't sleep as a nightclub across the road is pumping out music. When we complain, the police are called, but the music continues. This does not appear to be a one-off. Why has the hotel not designed the noise out ? After all, we are paying a lot for this room.
This is just poor management. Individual staff were polite & courteous, but they are badly let down by senior management. Do not stay here if you expect a high level of service for what is an expensive, very ordinary place.
