This hotel is the best deal in Florence.

I stayed at this hotel with 3 friends in October 2008. Our rooms were large, clean, and beautifully situated, breakfast was continental, served in a cheery, clean room. Best of all, the people running the hotel are wonderfully friendly and helpful; they directed us to great restaurants, secured tickets for us, got us on a fabulous tour of Siena and the Chianti countryside. The hotel itself is perfectly situation a block from the Ponte Vecchio and easy walking distance to all the great sites of Florence. With all that, it is extremely reasonbe in price. I don't know what ax the other reviewer had to grind, but we would all return to the Alessandro in a heartbeat and recommend it without reservation.
A Nasty Experience

The room was filthy. Dust balls were hanging from the walls and blowing out the AC. Jalousie above tub was broken in the OPEN position. Breakfast was next door and was not edible. Room had bugs flying and crawling. Carpet was stained and grimey. Sliding doors would not lock properly, causing me to feel unsafe all night. TV had no cable and only fuzzy reception. I would rather sleep in my car!!
