Elevator missing, rooms under construction

I called the day before arriving to confirm reservations and they neglected to tell me that there was no elevator. Upon check in they revealed the elevator was not working. When asked, they said it would be working in about three weeks. The elevator wasn't being fixed. It was gone! We were offered a ground floor room, "if it is a problem", but that did not feel safe. Rooms were under construction which added to the noise of the planes on flight pattern to airport and street traffic. It is almost all non-smoking rooms (2 are ok to smoke in), they proudly announced when I made the reservation, but they did not state that they have ashtrays stationed outside almost every room - encouraging people to smoke at the door to your room. The staff was very nice. Housekeeping did a good job. It is close to SJSU and convention center and convenient to restaurants.

Close to local restaurants and main drag. Very noisy. Jets were quieter that guests. Very thin walls with people slamming doors and speaking very loud. No consideration for guest in rooms. I guess that what you get from hotels that have rooms open and facing parking.
Would not stay here for extended stay. Would stay for one night if I could find another place first.

This is an older hotel but they have kept it up very well. It is close to part of down town San Jose and the only one under $90 that we were willing to stay at , We like it also because of its closeness, walking distance, to eating places and if you have friends at San Jose State it is perfict. The complementry breakfast was very good for a small place with many choices. The staff was very cheerful, Helpful and wanting to make sure you had a very good stay and day. Only down side was not many TV channels

This hotel was a few blocks off from the main drag in San Jose. We needed an inexpensive place to stay for the night and this fit the bill! Typical motel stylings, with a parking lot surrounded by rooms, all facing outside. The lighting was dim and for 2 girls the safety of the facilities were questionable, but the staff was friendly enough and the rooms had enough space for us to spread out. Overall an OK experience but I wouldn't go back unless looking for a budget hotel/motel.
