Description: The Sir Francis Drake is a San Francisco institution. It has the old-world charm of antique San Francisco, combined with a spectacular location in the heart of Union Square, the best shopping in the city.
This vintage hotel is very large and very regal, on the corner of Powell St. It has views of the city, and of Union Square, which is quite a sight, especially during Christmas time, when the tree in the square is up and lit. The hotel also fills its large, plush, red lobby with about 50 decorated trees during Christmas, each with a different theme. It's magnificent.
The rooms are not incredible but are spacious, with big Jacuzzi tubs and comfortable beds. The start at about $135 dollars per night. The elevators are on the outside of the building, with great views of the square and the high-rises around.
Brunch at the Sir Francis Drake is always fun. There is a huge buffet to partake in or a menu to order from.
This hotel's best feature by far is the location. Right outside is the city center, with Macy's, Saks, Neimans, Nordstrom, French Connection, Levi's, Adidas, and MANY others all within a short walk.
