Family vacation with three small kids for a week. The hotel was great!! Excellent location next to the museum and Central Park (and its playgrounds). Great staff. Doorman was extremely nice. Upgraded to a 1 br suite for free. Clean room, lovely view. The decor is not dated like the other pictures. No mini-bar in our room. ;) No coffee maker either. :( Lots of good inexpensive restaurants for kids nearby. We like EJ's lunchette and Pinch pizza place. Parking at the Museum for Natural History was perfect and only $150 or so for a week with validation by the hotel. Really great experience overall.

Excellant hotel, great location

Had a great stay, hotel is steps from subway and bus access. Would stay here again. Very secure, lovely room. Only an in room fridge would have made it better.

This was our first time in New York and we loved the hotel and the area. The front desk help was not the friendliest, but the bell hop was great. We would defiently stay there again. Nice, Clean, quite and we loved the location.

While the Excelsior is an older hotel, it is reasonably updated and modern. We were upgraded to a mini-suite, no charge. No view, but we were not in the room that much. Next to Central Park, within a block, close to the subway so travel was very convenient. Also close to the museum of natural history, easy walk. Staff was courteous, knowledgable of the area. Great experience, good accommodations, good price for New York and well worth it. Bed was queen, adequate size, TV was ~ 20 inch tube type, but worked fine. Housekeeping was very good and courteous, would stay there again if in NYC on west side of Central Park. Great vacation, love NYC, good hotel.

WOW! Fabulous! Best of ten places I have stayed!!

I REALLY liked the Excelsior. I was travelling as as vacationer and its location was perfect for me. Close to the subway and bus lines I wanted. Close to the restaurants and shops I frequent. One block from Central Park. My room was absolutely clean. bed felt great. Carpets were spotless. Big dresser, closet, large rooom. Good Air conditioning, good TV. Great bathroom, water was hot and abundant. Excellent working elevators. Nice bar off the lobby. I found the staff helpful and atentive. I've stayed in a number of other NYC hotels and paid a LOT MORE and got a LOT LESS than what I experienced at the Excelsior. This was no postage stamp size room like at The Franklin or The Hudson. I was very happy.
