Stolen money and horrible customer service

Booked a luxury king room and checked into the hotel and were given our room key. We notice that the room was a queen room and called the front desk to make sure, and they said yes, you are in a queen room but that they were sold out so they would comp us a breakfast the next day and they would also upgrade us to a junior suite king room for our last two nights. We thought this was fair enough and accepted.
The next day they had someone move our luggage to our new room and everything was going great. The hotel does seem a little dated, but not in a a run down kind of way. It's a great area if you like being near Times Square. They are pet friendly and we had our dog with us. If this was the end of this story it would be a wonderful one, but it is not.
We were gathering our things to check out of the hotel and my partner noticed that our money had been stolen out of his shaving kit. This was about a couple thousand dollars. We immediately called hotel security and we insisted that they call NYPD. There was no indication that the room had been broken into so it was clearly a hotel employee. Also, that was all of the cash we had left for the trip and still had a full day in NY. The manager did nothing but let us keep the room until we had to leave for our flight. To top it off when we were checking out the person behind the front desk tried to charge us for the breakfast that they said they were comping for us. Now, I would think that this supposed luxury hotel would have had a note on our reservation stating what had happened to us and would acknowledge our plight, but alas, no, I had to ask to see the manager and he still didn't acknowledge what happened. When I called the general manager, Florian Shutz, he in essence told me that there was nothing he could or would do to help us and that he took no responsibility for what his employees did or did not do.

The hotel was located in a good central "Manhattan" location. Within walking distance to Times Square, the Theatre District, 5th Ave shops etc. The hotel was nice. The bell men are very attentive. The rooms, with turndown service nightly, were always clean. The toiletries were Loccitane (which are my favorite) The hotel was very full (according to management), so even though I was registered for a Luxury King (which is a bit larger than Deluxe King), it was on the 9th floor, which had "no" view. That was the only downer of the trip.
The beds were great, the soaking tub and separate shower were awesome. The bathroom had speakers, which allowed for a great relaxing soak. The Fitness room was average, with fruit, and a water cooler, there were not any "wet" areas. The one restaurant, did not have a vast menue.
Overall this was a good "first" visit to NY, staying at a good Hotel.

Just got back from New York and loved staying at the Sofitel. The staff were very helpful and the location of the hotel is ideal. We didn't seem to have to walk far to see some of the greatest sights in New York. The hotel room was very nice, and we enjoyed every minute of our stay at the Sofitel.

Loved everything --especially courteous, friendly staff, comfy rooms and beds, and location! You are within a short walk to Rockefeller Center, Times Square, public transportation, shopping, and neighborhood restaurants. Quiet rooms are well-insulated to protect from city traffic and noisy neighbors. All interactions with staff were positive--front desk, concierge, housekeeping, bell men (especially one who called to find us a late-night restaurant). It will be my choice for NYC adventures!

Between the magnificent French painted murals, the fully staffed floor, the brand new surroundings and the oversized fresh flower arrangements…you would think you are staying with in an ultra modern easy going mansion in the Middle of Manhattan. Food is forgetaboutit wonderful. If come here for the bed and the food alone and you will be a happy guest. Comfortable!
