Great value and location

Great location, 1/2 block from subway, close to Times Square, around the corner from Empire State building, and 1 block from Macy's and shopping. The double bed room we had was small but clean and we didn't want to spend time in the room except to sleep. I would definitely upgrade to the queen sized bed. We are used to a king, so the double felt small. Bathroom was shower only, but sufficient and again CLEAN. The staff was very helpful. The doorman is a great source of info for restaurants locals frequent. We LOVED the rooftop bar area, we took our Starbucks up and and hang out until it closed. The view of the Empire State building is amazing. They also serve lunch and dinner at the bar from the Metro Grill (not associated with the breakfast service) downstairs. The continental breakfast was suffcient for us, nothing fancy but the basics were fine: Toast, bagels, sweet rolls, oatmeal packets, dry cereal, granola, plain and flavored yogurt, peanut butter, cheese, fresh fruit bowl, bananas, oranges and apples. The dining room, open 6-11, is large and comfortable, but gets crowded. I loved all the different nationalities, lots of European and Asian visitors. We liked to try a different restaurant each night and ate in the Metro Grill one night--it was good pub fare. If you're looking for value and location, the Metro Hotel is a great choice.
Quiet, but tiny room with maintenance issues.

Room was clean, but really tiny. The AC/Heat was a "through the wall" unit that has slid back an inch or two into the room, allowing a continuing blast of cold air to enter. I put towels around it, and that helped enough for me to keep the room, but it should have been fixed before I got there. There were quite a few other maintenance issues - a soap dish that tipped over and wouldn't hold soap, etc.
The location in the Garment District is in an area described in a NY restaurant guide as a culinary wasteland, and my walk around the area confirmed that. Not the usual collection of great NY food options.

This is an excellent hotel. I travel to New York several times a year for business and usually stay in different hotels. I will definitely stay here again. On my last trip I had to change my reservation several times due to flight cancellations as a result of bad weather. When I finally was able to check in, they had upgraded me to a suite. Very friendly staff and good sized, very clean rooms. Only minor complaint; the hotel offers free Wi-Fi, but the service is very slow.
Great Location!!!

I have to say the Hotel Metro was better than the last hotel I stayed at in Manhattan. It's a short walk to Macy's, Empire State Building, and Subway station. There are a wide variety of restaurants and small shops to get your souvenirs.
The rooms are perfect for two people as longs as you don't have a ton of luggage. The bathroom was bigger than I thought it would be, but that's because the last hotel I stayed at was way smaller.
Overall I would say the Hotel Metro is a great hotel and I plan on going back for my next trip to NYC. By the way, the staff is great.
