Spacious Beachfront Vacation Homes

Kaanapali Villas are hotel style rooms, but each suite is independently owned, so you are staying in someone's vacation home (as was evidenced by the family photos). Our villa was very spacious with a full kitchen, living/dining room combo, large bedroom and large bathroom. The staff is courteous, the hotel has a nice Hawaiin theme, and the hotel sits at the beachfront. Be aware of the resort fees, including charges for the pool towels in your room. Housekeeping maintains the rooms with a surface cleaning, but food from the previous guest was left on top of the fridge. The Sofa Bed was "temporarily out of order" so we were a little cramped. Overall, the hotel is nice but needs some minor improvements. We found the location to be far from much of what we wanted to do. Many of our activities were a minimum of 45 minutes drive time. Parking was a nightmare: there are no assigned spots, so it's first come, first serve and most nights we parked three buildings away from our building. TIP: Old Lahina Luau is a must! From the moment we were lei'd to the closing performance, you are smiling and hoping the evening will never end.
Spacious room and very nice pool.

We stayed in Room 308 which had been remodeled and was nice. Our daughter's family was in 409 and it was not quite as nice. The funiture in the living room could have been a bit more comfortable. The AC did a good job but the weather was mild for our visit and we tried to leave the windows open as much as possible.
The bed was OK but we are a bit spoiled with a number bed.
Snorkeling off the beach right at the hotel was the first time my wife and I did not see any fish. Black Rock, south of the Villas, is suppose to be a good spot but we did not get down there. We also got minor stings (jelly fish?) in the water off the Villas beach. Also, the beach here gets deep very fast and has quite an undertow.
The Castaway's restaurant on the property is convenient but just OK quality wise and on the expensive side for the quality. People from other properties are not lining up for the food here.

My family of four (two younger children) stayed in a one bedroom loft that had been recently upgraded with new kitchen adn bath. The beds were in need of replacing but the loft was was comfortable. These units are privatly own but maintained well. We were able to save lots of money by buying groceries and having breakfast and lunch at the condo. Lahaina and shopping was 3 miles away. it was very quiet and relaxing. The only noise was from the Sugar Cane train but was not annoying. The grounds were beautiful with loads of native Hawaiian plants. The beach is nice but no life gaurds and the snorkeling was just okay. Had to drive 5 miles to a good snorkeling spot. The pools were clean and not crowded for a holiday weekend. The location is on the dry side of Maui.
