JACK LONDON INN: A ONE STAR HOTEL AT BEST

The only thing pleasant about this hotel was the front desk. The hotel was dark and dingy, furnished in sears 1950, was told that the swimming pool was not clean and should not be used, and was uninhabitable. The desk clerk returned our credit card and my wife and I left feeling profoundly disappointed that the hotel was on travel website.

Well, I will say that they were friendly and tried hard. I arrived after check in time and was sent to a room that had not been cleaned. I lugged my luggage back down stairs. They scrambled to find another room. I was asked if I wanted WI-Fi. When I said yes, the young man at the desk said, "Oh wait, I forgot... We are installing new routers.
Then I was sent to another room on the same floor. I could not get the door open, so I went back down again. I was then informed the doors were "Tricky" and I would have perform some magic to make them open. The hospitality manager was dispatched to teach me the trick. Once in my room, I found it 'adequately" appointed (old Motel 6), however the carpet was dirty and stained. I decided to check out the other amenities before I got comfortable. I went down to inquire about the pool - I was then informed that the pool was closed for repairs. That is when I went crazy...
I went back up to "My Room" and called the online company... While I was on the phone with them, the front desk called and Offer me a Suite - I was hesitant, but I went to look anyway. I t was Ok so I took it. But the rest of my stay was not without incident. Let's just say I kept wondering if these people ever had guests in their hotel before...

In all honesty, we were reluctant to stay here after reading other posted reviews. BUT, it's extremely convenient for our purposes, & our usual hotel was full, so... And we had no problems at all! In fact, I think this is our new "usual". Hotel was clean, staff was friendly, polite, & efficient. Yes, the train goes by right under the window. What the heck - it's a hoot! And yes, the hotel is a bit "vintage" - the carpet in our room could stand a visit from the Rug Doctor - and the "continental breakfast" wasn't up to Plaza Hotel standards, but folks, this is a two-star hotel. If you want 5-star service & ammenities, you're gonna hafta pay fer 'em. This was inexpensive & worth every penny. If you're feeling grumpy & uptight - and if train noise bothers you - go someplace else. If you can chill & go with the flow - & enjoy saving some coin - this is the place! (And try the little restaurant next door. Oh, my gosh!)
one star. excellent if you are on a budget.

We had a wonderful stay my wifew and I. we came for the annual baot show and always stay here. This time was special as it was our 25th anniversary. The manager arragnged for special rate at the restaurant we ate plus gave us a free bottle of champagne and special rates at Yoshi's. He even gave us a suite at a super rate. He goes overboard to make people have fun. All the guests at the hotel were boaters and they asll were so friendly. We'll be back for our 26th for sure. W4e didn't swim so can't tell you about the pool but it did look inviting.
