I Had a Great Stay Here!

The Holiday Inn on W. 57th Street definitely exceeded my expectations. My room was small, but clean and well appointed, with great bedding. The staff was helpful. The gym is actually a serious, no-frills local gym located in the basement, very much like the one I go to in Los Angeles (Body Builders in Silver Lake). The shop in the lobby offers plenty of snacks and the prices are not exorbitant. I took advantage of the reasonably priced shuttle to JFK, but be advised that you should book your shuttle seat 24 hours in advance. The west side location is very convenient, a short walk to Columbus Circle and Central Park. Overall, I give the Holiday Inn 57th Street high marks. They are definitely making an effort in all areas, including pricing. This is a particularly good place to stay if you are a former New Yorker or know your way around the city and don't need to be babied.

This hotel was a disaster from the beginning. I thought the * rate was great but I quickly learned that paying an additional * for a hotel with a more defined reputation would have been the wise thing to do. There was a nice long line in the lobby just for checking in, because there was only one attendant and no other hotel staff to be seen so people with general concerns were waiting in line. The room was a disaster, did not seem clean at all! Water stains on the ceiling, old TV, lumpy pillows, no tea provided for the room either, and upon arrival the room was freeezing! We had a reservation so they could have left the heat on for our arrival. The room service was terrible! They told me the pancakes were made fresh, but nope, definitely pre-frozen and terrible coffee. We needed a wake up call for noon and they never called! So we proceeded to miss our afternoon flight and since the next flight was not until the next day, they did not even offer to comp the room!! I stayed at a Sheraton in NJ closer to the airport last year and they missed my wake up call but at least they did not ask me to pay for the second night! The room was totally not worth it, the staff made the experience even worse! Holiday Inn is known as a low-grade, stock hotel but I just figured it could not be this bad! But it was, I will never stay at a low-grade hotel again, trust me it is sooo worth the extra * to stay at a boutique or 4 star hotel such as the Palace, or the Peninsula!

Rarely do we get to stay in a decent hotel while in NYC but the prices were great. Room was clean and comfortable, staff friendly and responsive. We were even able to get a room upgrade without increase in price. The location was great. We would definitely stay again.
