Lovely Grounds and Main House, Shabby Rooms

  • 3 out of 5 stars by jmohr from Washington, D.C.
  • August 24, 2009
Quote: We booked a room at the English Inn at the last minute. We were pleased by the relatively low summer rates--particularly given our poor planning. Pluses: Really lovely and peaceful grounds. The main house is in great shape and tastefully decorated.... Read the full The English Inn Boutique Hotel review

Needs some renos

  • September 14, 2008
Quote: The staff was friendly and helpful.? The place has character and the grounds are lovely.? However, the boiler wasn't working while we were there so it was uncomfortably cold at night due to lack of heat and the wooden windows wouldn't close making... Rude and Uncomfortable Please stay elsewhere.

  • 1 out of 5 stars A traveler from Travelocity.com
  • June 11, 2008
Quote: I have never been so rudely treated in any hotel, ever! First be prepared to carry your own luggage (upstairs and across gardens). This hotel has no help with luggage and they seem put out by the suggestion. Second, don't plan on eating. Yes they... Read the full The English Inn Boutique Hotel review

Need for renovation

  • 3 out of 5 stars A traveler from Travelocity.com
  • June 9, 2008
Quote: The setting is lovely and the restaurant quite good, though a bit short-staffed to handle a full complement of dinners. The room we had was on the third floor (walk up) of an older annex. The ventilation was poor, there was no airconditioning, and... Read the full The English Inn Boutique Hotel review

Quote: I've stayed at the hotel with my wife. Everything was very nice - old style room, buildings, lots of trees, thermostat in room & bathroom, etc. People were very friendly, the lounge also had computer with free internet access. Location was quite... Read the full The English Inn Boutique Hotel review

  • October 12, 2006
Quote: What a wonderful surprise! Our group had two very different rooms. One, a cosy cottage, the other a stunning contemporary suite that had recently been refurbished. The grounds are lovely, the food service is simply outstanding. This was a... Read the full The English Inn Boutique Hotel review

  • August 16, 2006
Quote: The outside and the ground looks very impressive, the gardens are beautiful, the room was cheaply decorated, definitely in need of renovation, the bed was absolutely horrible! My wife and I were both up by 5am because of back pain from the bed! Only... Read the full The English Inn Boutique Hotel review

Beautiful Hotel

  • 5 out of 5 stars A traveler from Travelocity.com
  • June 23, 2006
Quote: This hotel is very beautiful and relaxing. The lobby is lovely and the rooms are well decorated. Staff were friendly. It's a 5 minute drive out of Victoria, there are ferried available but a car is most convenient

ROOM WITH A VIEW

  • 3 out of 5 stars A traveler from Travelocity.com
  • June 16, 2006
Quote: We paid extra for a corner suite with an ocean view. We got a corner room over the kitchen exhaust fan. The manager was polite and gave us a free breakfast but the room was very noisey and looked out on a construction project.
