Travelling with a two-year-old meant my wife and I wanted a suite, but we also wanted some luxury. We ended up choosing a one bedroom suite with full kitchen, wood burning fireplace, and a jacuzzi tub for two. The layout of the suite was great; it covered half of the top floor and had a huge wrap around deck with views of the inner harbour, the city, the ocean, and the mountains in the distance.

The suite was large, I'd say about 700 square feet, and there was a decent size living area, a dining area with large table, medium kitchen with an eating nook, and a large bedroom and bathroom. For the size of the suite, and for the amenities; a dishwasher, jacuzzi, fireplace and great views, the price of C$249 seemed reasonable. That said, $249 a night was a lot of money for us, especially for a hotel whose room rates that time of year were normally about $99 a night. We had many problems with our suite; there was no dishwasher detergent, the garbage disposal did not work, and there was no firewood provided.

Some of these problems were dealt with, others never were; in the case of the fireplace, we had to phone down to reception every night to request a fire log. The staff was friendly and courteous, but I got the feeling they simply weren't used to dealing with the suite. The hotel itself was great, and I would consider staying there again, in a normal room for a much lower price. There was a decent breakfast provided in the morning, complimentary newspapers in the lobby, and when we went for a walk in the rain the front desk staff were quick to offer us an umbrella. I feel that the problems that we had were due to choosing a luxury room in a moderate hotel. For the same price, we could have stayed in a slightly smaller suite in a much higher-end hotel, like the Laurel Point, and that's probably what we will do next time. Close
