"Outdated, overpriced, rude staff, noisy"

  • July 16, 2007
  • Rated 1 of 5 by a traveler from Travelocity.com
This place bills itself as a historical "gem". It's really an overpriced, outdated place with a very inefficient, rude staff, tiny and VERY NOISY rooms (you can hear every word from your neighbor's room). Guests have to share the slow elevators with the cleaning and maintenance staff. The batorooms are so tiny there's no room to sit comfortably on the toilet or to put your own items anywhere. Cleaning staff didn't bother to give us wash cloths or new soap daily. My best advice, skip this place, there are much better, more reasonably priced hotels in Seattle.

Mayflower Park Hotel

The Mayflower Park is listed as a Historic Hotel of America. Currently 80 years old, it is the oldest hotel in continuous operation (and under a variety of names) in downtown Seattle. In the heart of the city, it’s a short walk to the Pike Place Market and there is hallway access to the Westlake Center for shops and the monorail to Seattle Centre. It is also fairly easy to walk to the Seattle Art Museum and the Pioneer Square District. I can’t think of a better location.

Our room may be typical…on the small side, it had a queen bed, and was nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. The bath had redone with Victorian-look fixtures and featured a deep soaking tub. Other features included robes, hairdryer, coffee, ironing board, and the morning paper. There are other room configurations available, but for two, the room was fine.

The hotel offers an up-scale restaurant, The Andaluca and a classic-look bar with high windows overlooking the street, Oliver’s. The lobby with its adjoining mezzanine is particularly attractive; we found the desk staff excellent and there is a concierge on site for bookings. Other facilities include a fitness centre on the third floor with machines, free weights, and aerobic equipment. All guest rooms have Wi-Fi and the hotel offers a full range of business services.

Food alternatives are available at the Westlake Center from all the usual fast-food places and P.F. Chang’s Chinese Bistro (400 Pine Street), an attractive room and bar with an extensive and tasty menu.

In essence, the Mayflower Park is a nice place to stay…it’s well cared for and has all the amenities that you’ll probably need. In a city of expensive hotels, the AAA rate at the time of our stay (May, 2007) was $209 plus all the usual taxes. Valet parking added an additional $28 per day. It averaged $270 per night.

Seattle Historic Charm at its best! Great Location. Convenient walking distance to Public Market, Pioneer Square, DT shopping. Excellent Service, friendly staff. Rooms are small but air conditioned, quiet, comfortable and tastefully decorated. A very pleasant experience that truly captures the historical flavour of the city. Would definitely stay again at this reburbished Historical landmark.

Sleepness in Seattle

Courteous staff and hotel "looks" nice, but I was miserable at this hotel. My 1rst room was on the 3rd floor and despite earplugs, a fan, and pillows, the persistant street noise (buses then trash trucks, cars, etc.) prevented sleep. The capable staff moved me to the 8th floor, which solved the street noise issue. However, the doors are spring-loaded and walls are very thin. So, basically when your neighbors arrive, slamming doors distract and then you'll be unable to avoid hearing what they're watching and talking about. Unless your deaf, there are better hotels in downtown Seattle.

Nice hotel but noisy

Clean, well-located hotel with nicely decorated rooms and friendly staff. Downside is noise...walls are very thin and you can easily hear your neighbor's TV..very disturbing.
