Check the reviews before you go. ~BAD BAD BAD~

I was so disgusted. We didn't have the money to stay anywhere else as we paid in advance for this place. We exited the freeway and saw where to turn and knew right away there was going to be a problem with the location. The photos are deceiving. You are 5 blocks from everything, indeed. That is nice, but I promise you that you will not walk anywhere -unless you are OK with parading your family down the street. Run maybe...but not walk. Make no mistake - I am no rural person afraid of the city with no knowledge of what a bad neighborhood is like. This is a bad neighborhood complete with sirens, graffitti and boarded up windows across the street. The front desk help was quite nice as were the cleaning crew. We get the keys and head up to our room. They could have at least turned the air conditioner on in there to neutralize the odor. Man, it was nasty. I immediately lysol-ed everything in the room. There were "hairs" on the toilet...if you catch my drift. Yes, hairs. The tub had some kind of build up on it and part of the broken handle was sitting on the side of the tub. I had to guess how to turn it on and change temperatures and that was, of course, while I was wearing my flip flops. The sheets were stained, so was the carpet. I was too scared to sleep soundly. There were security locks on the doors, but the window in the bathroom wasn't secure at all. The free breakfast: I went for coffee only, I could see the shocked look on other patrons they were surprised too. They didn't read the reviews either.

Not good

We checked in to the Travelodge, and immediately left to find another place to stay. Sister's room first would not open, then moving to a second room, it was filthy, smelly, drapes were hanging off the rods. The couch was in terrible condition. My room. Also very smelly. Bathroom dirty. Had a roach run across the floor. Looking outside the window, we had a nice view of a boarded up building. With no bars on the windows, we did not feel safe. Since the reservations where "non-refundable" we thought we were out the money. I talked online, which contacted the hotel. We ended up getting the second night refunded This was a "Good Buy" on the site, but we felt "Good Bye" was more to the point.

Worst Hotel Ever

This hotel has to be the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. Me and my wife literally feared for our safety. It was suppose to be a non smoking room, but you could smell the years of smoking, The bathroom was awful. There were rust stains all over the tub. And the parking lot was way too small. If you plan on staying here, look someplace else. Pay a little extra for a new hotel.

Friendly, but very shabby and near a genuine skid row.

Close enough to walk to the Henry Gonzalez Convention Center. Along the way, however, very near the motel, is a skid-row block where a lot of apparently harmless drunks sleep on the sidewalk. On one occasion I was approached by a panhandler on the motel parking lot. Clean rooms, but almost comically shabby: broken drawers, torn curtains, ripped upholstery, frayed lampshades, peeling mirrors, missing lightbulbs, non-functioning electric sockets, stopperless sinks. Pool was clean but minuscule. Ice machine was broken. The one bright spot here was the included-in-the-price buffet breakfast: tasty, nutritious, varied, and served by a competent, friendly woman who kept the kitchen immaculate. In general, this is a good place to stay if you are on a budget, appreciate a good breakfast, don't mind extreme shabbiness, and can take the nearby bad neighborhood in stride.

Mandatory extra charges

Room was clean but had a couple of light bulbs out and toilet would not stop running. My main gripe was the $2 safe charge and $2 long distance charge. Reputable hotels refund these fees when you don't use these services, when checking out I was informed that they were "mandatory" charges...When I called later to speak with the manager, he listened to me, then put me on hold, and NEVER (15 min) picked back up...
