Excellent hotel for the money

This hotel completely lived up to all it's reviews. The front desk staff was friendly, knowledgeable about the area and helpful. The property is conveniently located right across from part of the battlefield and is well-maintained and attractive. The continental breakfast was a nice collection of pastries, hot and cold cereals, yogurt and bagels. The room was large and clean. The furniture was sparse but comfortable. My only complaint would be that the water temperature in the shower fluxuated from scalding to freezing with little in between. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Gettysburg and would stay there again if I were in the area. Be sure to ask for the AAA discount if you are a member.

Visit to Gettysburg - a pleasant experience

We stayed at this hotel because of a recommendation from a person who knows the area well, and for its proximity to the Seminary and the location of the 1st day of the Gettysburg battle. If you have the interest on that level , it is a great spot to stay, with free admission to the small museum on the site of General Lee's headquarters. The hotel is preserved in the old style motel arrangement so you can have easy access to your car. Nice! The place is well-cared for and maintained and clean, but a little dated. That's part of the motel's own history going back to the 1930's as a roadside stay on the Lincoln highway. The bathroom was Ok and moderately updated with a large mirror with granite shelf, new-ish tile floor, and clean shower curtain, and the tub floor was clean, but old. The bathroom fan squeaked, and there was a slight old air conditioner aroma to the room. But the standard room was spacious enough even with a comfortable and good size extra cot set up. Nice flat screen TV. Staff were friendly and vigilant and offered brochures and help at check in. The decorating motif is all about Gen. Lee and it didn't seem to matter if one might be a Yankee or a Reb due to your home state. Nice landscaping and a serene feeling to the place. Reenactors dressed up in Rebel garb were set up right outside the hotel checkin area on Saturday morning, and fascinated our young boys when they showed off their muskets/rifles, etc. We would return again. There was a free continental breakfast that was the basic version, but my family opted for eggs at Friendly's every morning we were in town, about 5 minutes away on Steinwehr

Our Gettysburg PA visit

We went to Gettysburg?not Harrisburg. Purpose of trip was an extensive visit to the Civil War Battlefield and related activities. We were assigned a very nice, comfortable room. Hotel staff is polite. Complementary continental breakfast was great! Nice weather so we enjoyed the outside pool a couple of times. We enjoyed the on-site ABC restaurant and microbrewery. It was nice to have a couple of drinks after a long day of sightseeing without worrying about a drive back to the room. We dinned at the restaurant each night during the visit. Good food at a reasonable price. Highly recommended location and facility.

Good hotel for history buffs

My husband and I went here on our honeymoon, after visiting Virginia and DC. I really liked the location of the hotel and would stay there again. However, the shower head was pretty low, which worked fine for me but my husband is taller. Also, the water temperature kept alternating between warm and hot. We just chalked it up to the Ghosts of Gettysburg. The front desk was helpful when we requested extra towels. Also, the restaurant at the location, the Appalachian Brewing Company was fantastic. Good food and good service. I would stay there again, mainly for the location. It was across the road from Seminary Ridge and General Lee's Headquarters is right there to tour, which is free if you stay at the hotel. Very interesting things in the museum. I wish they would have had more rooms with king size beds. We had a queen size, which was fine, but we are used to a king size at home.

I would recommend General Lee's Headquarter's to anyone.

The hotel room was exceptional and I would recommend it anyone. They moved us at our request since we wanted a room with a view of the battlefield. They had an excellent continental breakfast and also had an excellent restraurant attached to the hotel. The staff in that restraurant was excellent too and gave excellent advice to on to see and do other than the same old , same old. The food was excellent there too. My husband made the comment that he would recommend this place to his parents who are very picky and who travel the world. And so while we were there he did call them up in Italy and tell them that the next time we visit Gettysbury, we want them to come with us and stay in this wonderful place. We love to travel to places of history or with signficance. Gettysburg, is a place that everyone should go once in their lifetime.
