Rus and Khreschatik

been there about 3 weeks ago ago. I liked Rus better but the location was not good for me so I moved to Khreschatik. Rus has very nice lobby, but Khreschatik is located in very downtown.

About the prices. All Ukrainian hotels are overpriced but there are some ways to cut costs on your trips there.

First option is to stay at apartments. You can google smth like "rent apartments Kiev" and choose from what you've got. I used http://www.flatlux.net/ this company couple of times.

Apartments are usually good but buildings are in very bad condition. Also good apartments cost as hotel room

Besides, I prefer to stay at hotel because I feel safer there.

Then I found http://www.vintage.ua/cities/ukraina--ukrayne/kiev--kyev.html and also their site www.kievpartner.com

As I've understood from their site it's a travel agency

I tried to call them and they offered 10% discount for Rus (I was interested in Rus). I booked through them and use them cheaper now.

btw, their email is info@kievpartner.com because site has mostly no information now.

btw, Khreschatik has quite good renovated rooms now and they have Buddha bar there!

P.S. first time when I used kievpartner.com for booking I called hotel directly to check if they really booked room for me.

Good Value

I stayed here for business for 2 nights. The hotel was clean, offered adequate ammenities (hair dryer, toiletries...), and felt very safe. The facilities were pretty good (nice clean bathroom, good shower, etc) The breakfast buffet is included in the price and it was an extensive, hot buffet. For the money, it might be tough to do any better in Kiev. The whole hotel is a little smoky, but so is every indoor space in Kiev. All-in-all, I would recommend it. If money were no object, I might try a different upscale hotel. As for the beds, they were average at best, but my reservation was made for me and it was a twin-bed. Next time, I'll go for the queen or king!

Hotel Rus: Viable Reasonably Priced Business or Tourist Option

I've stayed at Rus for business and tourism. It isn't Soviet style (been there!) but most basic rooms are tiny and 115-130 dollars/night. Rooms are well-cleaned daily but pack an extra roll or two of toilet paper as they don't provide extra roll. Free Breakfast buffet is excellent with wide variety including vegetables, fruit. Dinner is OK but you probably want to eat in the city. Location is walking distance to central street (Kreshatyik) and safe in early evening. You might need expensive taxi for late night or if a walk up a moderate hill is too much. There is a currency excange at the bottom of Hospitalna Road on the way to the city center that has had the best rates in the city on my last 4 trips in 4 years and better than the hotel. At the bottom of the road, 30 meters to the right is a great grocery store, (gastronomy) cheaper than room service/ bar for soft drinks, beer, wine, snacks. Security is excellent and low key. There is usually a police presence outside between the hotel and Hospitalnya street. There are occasional hookers in the hotel bars late at night but they are low-key and nothing you don't see elsewhere in Western Europe. Just have a thick skin if you are an attractive woman who decides to have a drink alone at the bar at midnight. Reception staff, business center and doormen helpful nd speak English. Laundry is expensive but concierge arranged taxi to airport is safe, reliable and reasonable. If you can spend more, consider Hotel Dnipro and if money is no object, pick a 5 star like Grand Hotel or Premier Palace. But Rus is overall good choice and likely a better value than President Hotel, next door.

location is awesome. they have upgraded floor, that is really nice. other floors are below average; I 'd pay the extra $20-25 to get the better floor, rooms. The food is good. If you are looking for fun with beautiful local women, they are right there waiting and approaching you. I was visiting my Fiance so it was a 'no' 'no' for me. I've noticed many single men do purchase their services. They have a exotic club in the hotel. I'd say the hotel is not for a family but for business people and singles.

Hotel Service

The staff at this hotel is still in the old Soviet mode. They were the most surly, unfriendly, discourteous, unhelpful staff of any hotel in which we have stayed. Had to argue with supervisor to get them to honor room rate quoted.
